High-flux optical systems (HFOSs) are optical concentrators used to increase the radiative flux of the natural terrestrial solar irradiation. High radiative flux concentration leads to high energy density in solar receivers which allow to obtain high tempe ...

Hydrogen is a highly versatile fuel that may become one of the key solutions to face our future energy challenges. Among all these methods for hydrogen production, solar water splitting offers possible advantages regarding components integration, stability ...

The concept of efficient electrolysis by linking photoelectrochemical biphasic H2 evolution and water oxidation processes in the cathodic and anodic compartments of an H-cell, respectively, is introduced. Overpotentials at the cathode and anode are minimis ...

At the dawn of the 21st century, mankind is facing an important energy challenge. Future energy demand can only be met by large scale exploitation of renewable energy resources. Solar energy is abundant, with a sufficient capacity for the growing energy de ...

The direct transformation of sunlight into fuels and chemicals has attracted considerable attention for the potential impact on the storage of solar energies at large scales and the reduction of CO2 emissions. More than 80% of our current global energy con ...

A straightforward and general way for monitoring chemical reactions is via their thermal signature. Such approach requires however an experimental setup with a high thermal stability that simultaneously allows time-resolved heat detection with high sensiti ...

Although sunlight-driven water splitting is a promising route to sustainable hydrogen fuel production, widespread implementation is hampered by the expense of the necessary photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical apparatus. Here, we describe a highly efficie ...

Solar-hydrogen generation represents a promising alternative to fossil fuels for the large-scale implementation of a clean-fuel transportation infrastructure. A significant amount of research resources has been allocated to the development of photoelectroc ...

The world needs to think about the after fossil fuel era and while the sun baths the earth with a tremendous amount of energy, man must learn how to harvest and store it in order to dispose of a continuous supply meeting his needs. Water photo-electrolysis ...

This thesis deals with the modelling of fundamental aspects of the mission engineering, the physics, and the constraints of atmospheric entry of space vehicles. The aim of this work is to formulate a coupled approach for the modelling and the simulation of ...

Let L be a lattice in . This paper provides two methods to obtain upper bounds on the number of points of L contained in a small sphere centered anywhere in . The first method is based on the observation that if the sphere is sufficiently small then the la ...

High-resolution X-ray computed tomography is employed to obtain the exact 3D geometrical configuration of porous anisotropic ceria applied in solar-driven thermochemical cycles for splitting H2O and CO2. The tomography data are, in turn, used in direct por ...
