Rapid inter-discharge simulation and optimization using the RAPTOR code have allowed the development of a reliable and reproducible early heating strategy for an advanced tokamak (AT) scenario on ASDEX Upgrade. Solving for electron heat and current diffusi ...

SPIDER is the negative ion source testbed for ITER neutral beam injector. It is currently the largest negative ion source ever built, equipped with a 100 keV accelerator, aiming at producing a negative ion beam with an extracted current density in hydrogen ...

Using newly developed spectroscopic models to measure the divertor concentration of Ne and Ar, it is shown that the experimental detachment threshold on ASDEX Upgrade with Ar-only and mixtures of Ar+N or Ne+N scales as expected in comparison with an analyt ...

This work presents the initial studies on the requirements for the design of 3D coils on EU-DEMO. The use of 3D coils in present machines includes two main purposes: the first one is the Error Field Correction (EFC). The EFC aims at minimizing the intrinsi ...

High-field accelerator magnets of the next generation will require coil grading in order to decrease the amount of superconductor and hence the magnet cost. The joints between Nb3Sn conductor grades must have low electrical resistance (

This paper reports on impurity behavior in a set of hybrid discharges with Ne seeding-one of the techniques considered to reduce the power load on reactor walls. A series of experiments carried out with light gas injection on JET with the ITER-Like-Wall (I ...

This paper presents the transport analysis of high density baseline discharges in the 2016 experimental campaign of the Joint European Torus with the ITER-Like Wall (JET-ILW), where a significant increase in the deuterium-deuterium (D-D) fusion neutron rat ...

The experimental method developed at ASDEX Upgrade for the determination of the intrinsic tungsten (W) density profile coupling data from the soft X-ray (SXR) diagnostic and vacuum-ultra-violet (VUV) spectroscopy has been upgraded for application to JET pl ...

The Swiss Plasma Center (SPC) is planning a divertor upgrade for the TCV tokamak. The upgrade aims at extending the research of conventional and alternative divertor configurations to operational scenarios and divertor regimes of greater relevance for a fu ...

In the next generation of fusion reactors, such as DEMO, neutral beam injectors (NBIs) of high energy (0.8-1 MeV) deuterium atom swith high wall-plug efficiency (>50%) will be required to reach burning plasma conditions and to provide a significant amount ...

Efficient, real-time and automated data analysis is one of the key elements for achieving scientific success in complex engineering and physical systems, of which two examples are the JET and ITER tokamaks. One problem which is common to these fields is th ...

We have designed and installed a new Langmuir-probe (LP) array diagnostic to determine basic three-dimensional (3D) features of plasmas in TORPEX. The diagnostic consists of two identical LP arrays, placed on opposite sides of the apparatus, which provide ...

The operation of the most promising concept for the future fusion rector, tokamak, relies on the generation of plasma current. Traditionally, this is created by magnetic induction which makes the tokamak operation pulsed. With electro-magnetic waves, in th ...
