We have focused on the ability to tune the aluminum (Al) content of the AlGaAs alloy along the growth direction in inverted pyramids (by MOVPE), thus tailoring the potential along a QWR nanostructure. Three parabolic-potential QDs (PQDs) of different poten ...

Metasurfaces can be employed for designing waveguides that confine the electromagnetic energy while they are open structures. In this communication, we introduce a new type of such waveguides, formed by two penetrable metasurfaces having complementary isot ...

Recent developments have enabled the practical realization of optical elements in which the polarization of light may vary spatially. We present an extension of Fourier optics-matrix Fourier optics-for understanding these devices and apply it to the design ...

We report on a 32 x 32 silicon photonic micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) switch with gap-adjustable directional couplers. The switch is fabricated on 200-mm silicon-on-insulator wafers in a commercial complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) fo ...

Ferroelectric materials are used in actuators or sensors because of their non-volatile macroscopic electric polarization. GeTe is the simplest known diatomic ferroelectric endowed with exceedingly complex physics related to its crystalline, amorphous, ther ...

The second harmonic of an infrared laser generated by frequency doubling in a nonlinear crystal can be adversely affected by group delay dispersion applied to the fundamental radiation. Yet large amounts of group delay dispersion can be advantageous when u ...

This paper focuses on depth of field (DOF) extension through polarization aberrations. The addition of polarizing elements into an optical system allows to exploit the polarization of the incoming light as an additional degree of freedom in the optical sys ...

This contribution focuses on the fabrication and characterization of microchannel plates made of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (AMCPs). Flexible fabrication processes and the semi-conducting nature of amorphous silicon could give these detectors the advan ...

Crystalline organic semiconducting materials are much in demand for multiple electronic and optoelectronic device applications. Here, solution grown ultrathin rhombic crystals of a trimethine carbocyanine anionic dye are used to establish relationships bet ...

Retlectarray (RA) and transmitarray (TA) antennas that use the element-rotation technique require the radiation from the feeding antenna to be circularly polarized (CP). A CP axially corrugated horn antenna is developed as a feeding element for CubeSat RA ...

Acoustical behavior of a room for a given position of microphone and sound source is usually described using the room impulse response. If we rely on the standard uniform sampling, the estimation of room impulse response for arbitrary positions in the room ...

Zero reflection and complete light absorption are required in a wide range of applications ranging from sensing devices to solar heaters and photoelectrodes. However, simultaneously satisfying the requirements of the broadband spectrum, omnidirectionality, ...
