The ultimate thinness of graphene pores makes them ideal as a high-flux selective layer for manipulating molecular transport. However, due to the limited understanding of the formation of ångstrom (Å)-scale pores, controlling pore size and understanding ga ...

Solvent resistant and pH-stable nanofiltration membranes play a crucial role in solvent or water reuse across various industries, including pharma, chemical, dairy and mining, where stringent pH conditions and chemical stability are imperative. Previous re ...

Synthetic microbial communities (SynComs) are powerful tools for investigating microbial interactions and community assembly by focusing on minimal yet functionally representative members. Here, we will highlight key principles for designing SynComs, speci ...

This work presents a recommendation system for metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) inspired by online content platforms. By leveraging the unsupervised Doc2Vec model trained on document-structured intrinsic MOF characteristics, the model embeds MOFs into a hig ...

Introduction: Glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness globally, affects more than 70 million people across the world. When initial treatments prove ineffective, especially for cases with high intraocular pressure (IOP), the preferred approach ...

We present the Breakpoint Exact Algorithm (BEA) together with a Spatial Branch and Bound (B&B), and Spatial Branch and Benders Decomposition (B&BD) approach to tackle the uncapacitated choice-based pricing problem (CPP) where demand is captured by a disc ...

The traditional pathway of electrolysis based power-to-methane systems consists of water (liquid or vapor) electrolysis followed by CO2 methanation. The use of solid-oxide electrolysers allows an alternative pathway, i.e., steam and CO2 electrolysis follow ...

The shipping industry was responsible for about 3% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2018. In this context, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has established stringent targets to reduce GHG emissions by at least 50% by 2050 compared t ...

The decentralisation and unpredictability of new renewable energy sources require rethinking our energy system. Data-driven approaches, such as reinforcement learning (RL), have emerged as new control strategies for operating these systems, but they have n ...

Autotrophic nitrate-reducing Fe(II)-oxidizing (NRFeOx) microorganisms fix CO2 and oxidize Fe(II) coupled to denitrification, influencing carbon, iron, and nitrogen cycles in pH-neutral, anoxic environments. However, the distribution of electrons from Fe(II ...

The process synthesis and optimization methods used in this work include simulation of biomass gasification, hydrogen and synthetic natural gas production, and jet fuel production via a Fisher Tropsch unit. An energy integration approach, carried out by th ...

We consider low run-time complexity power management in distribution grids with renewable energy sources (RESs) and batteries, where forecasts are unavailable. We propose iterative Lyapunov Real-time Control (iLypRC), a fast online algorithm, which does no ...

The lack of freshwater in many countries pushes authorities to utilize desalination units. Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) have shown promising results to provide the power to establish a multi-generation system using hydrogen as a renewable source. In this ...
