The ultimate thinness of graphene pores makes them ideal as a high-flux selective layer for manipulating molecular transport. However, due to the limited understanding of the formation of ångstrom (Å)-scale pores, controlling pore size and understanding ga ...

Engineering materials with highly tunable physical properties in response to external stimuli is a cornerstone strategy for advancing energy technology. Among various approaches, engineering ionic defects and understanding their roles are essential in tail ...

The synthesis and control of properties of p-type ZnO is crucial for a variety of optoelectronic and spintronic applications; however, it remains challenging due to the control of intrinsic midgap (defect) states. In this study, we demonstrate a synthetic ...

This work presents a study of p-type passivating contacts based on SiCx formed via a rapid thermal processing (RTP) step, using conditions compatible with the firing used to sinter screen-printed metallization pastes in industry. The contributions of the t ...

To obtain a more complete understanding of material microstructure at the nanoscale and to gain profound insights into their properties, there is a growing need for more efficient and precise methods that can streamline the process of 3D imaging using a tr ...

Metal nanoclusters are a unique class of synthetic material, as their crystal structures can be resolved using X-ray diffraction, and their chemical formula can be precisely determinated from mass spectroscopy. However, a complete structure characterizatio ...

This thesis is an in-depth treatment of water vapor transport in snowpacks and its impacts on snow structure. The aim is to better understand this transport process and to lay the basis for a model representation in physics-based multi-layer snow models. O ...

Three-dimensional atomic force microscopy (3D-AFM) has resolved three-dimensional distributions of solvent molecules at solid-liquid interfaces at the subnanometer scale. This method is now being extended to the imaging of biopolymer assemblies such as chr ...

Permalloy Ni80Fe20 is one of the key magnetic materials in the field of magnonics. Its potential would be further unveiled if it could be deposited in three dimensional (3D) architectures of sizes down to the nanometer. Atomic Layer Deposition, ALD, is the ...

We report on a 32 x 32 silicon photonic micro-electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) switch with gap-adjustable directional couplers. The switch is fabricated on 200-mm silicon-on-insulator wafers in a commercial complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) fo ...

Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC), designed mainly for mobility applications, converts chemical energy to electrical energy. The formation of electrodes for PEMFC is a delicate balancing of transport media. Conductivity of gas, electrons, and prot ...
