Surface functionalization of 1D materials such as silicon nanowires is a critical preparation technology for biochemical sensing. However, existing nonselective functionalization techniques result in nonlocal binding and contamination, with potential devic ...

Frequency-bin qubits get the best of time-bin and dual-rail encodings, but require external modulators and pulse shapers to build arbitrary states. Here, instead, the authors work directly on-chip by controlling the interference of biphoton amplitudes gene ...

Recent advances in the field of nanomaterials demonstrated how their use for vaccination can drastically improve immune responses, mainly by enhancing delivery and uptake of vaccine components. However, our understanding of the connections between presenta ...

DNA-based nanomaterials are gaining popularity as uniform and programmable bioengineering tools as a result of recent solutions to their weak stability under biological conditions. The DNA nanotechnology platform uniquely allows decoupling of engineering p ...

The fabrication of metallic nanostructures on stretchable substrates enables specific applications that exploit the combination of the nano-scale phenomena and the mechanical tunability of the physical dimensions of the nanostructures. Due to the large dif ...

Defects in solid-state systems can be both detrimental, deteriorating the quality of materials, or desired, thanks to the novel functionality they bring. Optically active point defects, producing fluorescent light, are a great example of the latter. Natura ...

Two-dimensional (2D) crystals such as graphene or transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are a fascinating class of quantum materials. These compounds are obtained isolating the single atomic sheets that normally form bulk layered crystals, and the reduc ...

The design of functional structures from primary building blocks requires a thorough understanding of how size, shape, and particle-particle interactions steer the assembly process. Specifically, for electrically conductive networks build from carbon nanot ...

Nowadays, the interest in 2D materials has gone far beyond graphene. Specially, monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) offer a broad spectrum of electronic and optical properties, and show the potential to revolutionize the electronics indus ...

Nanotechnology is regarded as the enabling technology of the 21st century. However, only a relatively small number of nano-enabled medical and healthcare products finally made their way to the market. There are several reasons why such innovative approache ...

The future of medicine lies in therapeutic approaches that can specifically target sites of disease and induce a localized and effective therapeutic effect. Cell-mediated delivery, especially using cells of the circulatory repertoire such as T lymphocytes, ...

Substantial downscaling of the feature size in current CMOS technology has confronted digital designers with serious challenges including short channel effect and high amount of leakage power. To address these problems, emerging nano-devices, e.g., Silicon ...

Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are filamentary crystals with the diameter ranging from few tens up to few hundreds of nanometers. In the last 20 years, they have been intensively studied for the prospects that their unique quasi-one dimensional shape offers ...

Controlling the dynamics of spins on surfaces is pivotal to the design of spintronic(1) and quantum computing(2) devices. Proposed schemes involve the interaction of spins with graphene to enable surface-state spintronics(3,4) and electrical spin manipulat ...

We present a review on stencil lithography and focus on the particular interest and challenges when applying it to the scalable fabrication of nm-size devices. We first describe the basic technique with its main advantages and challenges. Then we review th ...

During the past decade, graphene --- a monolayer of carbon atoms --- has attracted enormous interest for its use in nanoelectronic device applications. The absence of bandgap, however, has stalled its use both in logic (inability to turn off) and radio fre ...

The use of solvent-free microfluidics to fine-tune the physical and chemical properties of chitosan nanoparticles for drug delivery is demonstrated. Nanoparticle self-assembly is driven by pH changes in a water environment, which increases biocompatibility ...

Variability analysis of nanoscale transistors and circuits is emerging as a necessity at advanced technology nodes. Technology Computer Aided Design (TCAD) tools are powerful ways to get an accurate insight of Process Variations (PV). However ...

Nanoscale mechanical oscillators(1) are used as ultrasensitive detectors of force(2), mass(3) and charge(4). Nanomechanical oscillators have also been coupled with optical and electronic resonators to explore the quantum properties of mechanical systems(5) ...

The allotropic forms of carbon (amorphous and polycrystalline graphite, carbon black, fullerenes, nanotubes, graphene) exhibit a large variety of charge transport properties which have been stimulating fundamental and applied research for the development o ...
