LoRaWAN is nowadays one of the most popular protocols for low-power Internet of Things communications. Although its physical layer, namely LoRa, has been thoroughly studied in the literature, aspects related to the synchronization of LoRa receivers have re ...

The purpose of this research has a background in the market for Internet of Things (IoT)devices and wireless sensor networks. The Market Forecast predicts the connection of a trillion"things" by 2025. The global smart sensor market size trend grows from US ...

LoRaWAN is a low-power wireless technology that provides long-range connectivity to battery-powered Internet of Things (IoT) devices. To minimize the energy consumption of the IoT nodes, LoRaWAN networks use for the uplink a pure non-slotted ALOHA multiple ...

The exponential growth in computing power and multimedia services has caused a tremendous increase in data traffic in recent years. This increase in data traffic brings a strong demand for data bandwidth of electrical input/output (I/O) links and pushes th ...

This thesis aims to explore and exploit trade-offs in integrated circuits and systems to overcome the fundamental bottlenecks faced by future data acquisition and communication systems. Specifically, we target the emerging implantable neurotechnology and t ...

Wireless implantable neural recording chips enable multichannel data acquisition with high spatiotemporal resolution in situ. Recently, the use of machine learning approaches on neural data for diagnosis and prosthesis control have renewed the interest in ...

This article introduces a wireline receiver (RX) data-path employing discrete multi-tone (DMT) modulation for communicating over electrical links. The DMT RX incorporates a fully digital equalization data-path, with a synthesized and automatically placed a ...

In this paper, for the first time, the in-to-out-body path loss between a capsule antenna placed inside the cows' rumen and a distant gateway was characterized at 868 MHz. Measurements were conducted on five different fistulated cows in a dairy barn. The i ...

Wireless communications are currently faced with two main challenges. The first challenge stems from the enormous number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices that transmit very small amounts of data. The second challenge is the need for ever-increasing data ...

The impact of technological advancement became significant and still has an essential role to play in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Nowadays, personalized medicine and therapy are on the rise as a consequence of the developed and cheaper medical ...

This paper presents a comparative study, analyzing the potentials of pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) for implementing next generation high-speed copper wireline links. This comparative study analyzes the sensitivities of PAM2, PAM4 and PAM8 to inter-symbo ...

JESD204B compliant low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS), and source-series-terminated (SST) transmitters in 28 nm FD-SOI CMOS technology are presented with 1.1 pJ/bit and 1.7 pJ/bit at 12.5 Gb/s, respectively. An external 6.25 GHz single-ended clock, ...

This paper presents the design of an impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) transmitter for low-power, short-range, and high-data rate applications such as high density neural recording interfaces. The IR-UWB transmitter pulses are generated by modulating t ...

Conventional input/output (IO) links consume power, independent of changes in the bandwidth demand by the system they are deployed in. As the system is designed to satisfy the peak bandwidth demand, most of the time the IO links are idle but still consumin ...

The exponential growth of Internet traffic and related demands for higher communication speed pushes processor-to-processor and processor-to-memory interconnects to provide further higher data-rate. Often time, processor-to-memory interconnectsâ speed is ...

In all networks, link or route capacities fluctuate for multiple reasons, e.g., fading and multi-path effects on wireless channels, interference and contending users on a shared medium, varying loads in WAN routers, impedance changes on power-line channels ...

For on-chip data communication with galvanic isolation, a monolithically integrated optocoupler is strongly desired. For this purpose, silicon (Si) avalanche mode LEDs (AMLEDs) offer a great potential. However such AMLEDs have a relatively low internal qua ...

A low-power frequency modulated-ultra-wideband (FM-UWB) receiver for short-range communications, capable of simultaneously demodulating multiple FM-UWB signals located at the same frequency, is presented in this paper. The proposed receiver utilizes an "ap ...

This work reports a low power implementation of a 60Gb/s NRZ optical receiver (RX) in 14nm bulk CMOS finFET featuring a first-order digital CDR with high jitter tolerance (JTOL). The design includes a single phase-rotator (PR) with low complexity control l ...

The Frequency Modulated Ultra-Wideband (FM-UWB) is known as a low-power, low-complexity modulation scheme targeting low to moderate data rates in applications such as wireless body area networks. In this paper, a thorough review of all FM-UWB receivers and ...
