Mobility concerns most daily tasks (e.g., householding, shopping), affecting life quality. Gait speed, recognized as the sixth vital sign, is a key to characterize mobility. It is also a primary outcome of many clinical interventions. Monitoring gait in un ...

Despite the huge expansion in recent years of sweat sensing and wearable technologies, several challenges are still open, including poor sample collection, separate sampling and analysis, low multi-sensing capabilities and materials toxicity. In this work, ...

In this thesis, I focus on monitoring of patients suffering from cardiovascular and neurological diseases through the use of wearable devices. The main diseases considered in this thesis are atrial fibrillation (AF), myocardial infarction (MI), and epileps ...

Powered exoskeletons are among the emerging technologies claiming to assist functional ambulation. The potential to adapt robotic assistance based on specific motor abilities of incomplete spinal cord injury (iSCI) subjects, is crucial to optimize Human-Ro ...

For decades mathematical modeling in epidemiology has helped understanding the dynamics of infectious diseases, as well as describe possible intervention scenarios to prevent and control them. However, such models were relying on several assumptions, such ...

Gait bouts (GB), as a prominent indication of physical activity, contain valuable fundamental information closely associated with human & x2019;s health status. Therefore, objective assessment of the GB (e.g. detection, spatio-temporal analysis) during dai ...

Stroke is one of the main causes of long-term disability worldwide, placing a large burden on individuals and society. Rehabilitation after stroke consists of an iterative process involving assessments and specialized training, aspects often constrained by ...

In sustainability research, transdisciplinary (TD) approaches that involve practitioners in the research process have emerged as promising tools for enhancing real-world knowledge and engendering societal change. However, empirical insights into how such p ...

Background: The Lifestyle-integrated Functional Exercise (LiFE) program is an intervention integrating balance and strength activities into daily life, effective at reducing falls in at-risk people >= 70 years. There is potential for LiFE to be adapted to ...

Wearable physiology is an expanding field, especially for sports applications that steadily require an accurate monitoring of the physical status of athletes. This work presents the co-design and the realization of an hardware front-end that enables multi- ...
