In this work, we investigate active flutter control of a bridge section model equipped with arrays of flaps. We consider three simple control algorithms based on an amplitudegain and a phase-shift for actuating the flaps and stabilizing the section model. ...

SPADnet is a sensor platform for the detection and processing of gamma photons generated in a PET system. SPADnet uses the novel technique of deferred coincidence detection, whereas timestamps associated with gamma events and their energy are routed at hig ...

The force (F) and the power consumption (P ) of a magnetic actuator are modeled, measured and optimized in the context of developing micro-actuators for large arrays, such as in portable tactile displays for the visually impaired. We present a novel analyt ...

We study microfluidic self-digitization in Hele-Shaw cells using pancake droplets anchored to surface-tension traps. We show that above a critical flow rate, large anchored droplets break up to form two daughter droplets, one of which remains in the anchor ...

This works describes the fabrication process of an array of printed MEMS microbridges on polymeric foil, performed in only four easy steps. Each functional material was deposited exclusively by inkjet-printing technique, compatible with large-area fabricat ...

This article is aimed at quantifying and discussing the relative magnitude of key terms of the equation of conservation of turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) in the inter-stem space of a flow within arrays of vertical cylinders simulating plant stems of emerge ...

Binary codes over 2D arrays are very useful in data storage, where each array column represents a storage device or unit that may suffer failure. In this paper, we propose a new framework for probabilistic construction of codes on 2D arrays. Instead of a p ...

A method to synthesize shaped beams with antenna arrays is presented. Specifically, the element excitations are determined such that the array radiates a power pattern that approximates a desired shape. To efficiently solve this problem, an iterative algor ...

An iterative algorithm to synthesize uniform amplitude focused beam arrays is presented. While the number of array elements and the excitations are fixed and known, the locations of the elements are optimized to radiate a narrow beam low sidelobe pattern. ...

This dissertation aims to explore the design trade-offs and technological limitations of planar antenna elements and arrays for Ka-band space applications. The motivation for this research stems from the growing importance of wideband millimetre wave radio ...
