A method for optimizing at least one of a geometry, an implantation procedure, and/or stimulation protocol of one or more electrodes for an electrical stimulation of a target structure in a nervous system of a living being by a computer device, the method ...

Monolithic integrated circuits (ICs) have been miniaturized over the past five decades, and today their components range in size from hundreds of microns to several nanometers. Making point contact with electrical samples under a microscope is referred to ...

In this paper, we carry out a systematic comparison between the theoretical properties of Spectral Element Methods and NURBS-based Isogeometric Analysis in its basic form, that is in the framework of the Galerkin method, for the approximation of the Poisso ...

A method for generating a data structure to digitally represent a geometrical object based on H-splines, the method being performed on a computer device having a data processor and memory, the method including the steps of creating a first data structure a ...

This paper presents a wave-based numerical scheme based on a spectral element method, coupled with an implicit-explicit Runge-Kutta time stepping method, for simulating room acoustics in the time domain. The scheme has certain features which make it highly ...

A system for predicting a likelihood of an occurrence of hallucinations in a subject including a master device configured to be at least one of moved, moved on, and manipulated by a subject, a slave device operably connected with the master device and adap ...

Distributed plasticity beam elements are commonly used to evaluate limit state demands for performance based analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Strain limits are often preferred to drift limits since they directly relate to damage and are the ...

FPGAs can provide high performance and energy efficiency to many applications; therefore, they are attractive computing platforms in a cloud environment. However, FPGA application development requires extensive hardware design knowledge which significantly ...

We demonstrate the fabrication of fully printed thin dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs), reducing the operation voltage below 300V while keeping good actuation strain. DEAs are soft actuators capable of strains greater than 100% and response times below ...

Rotor-bearing systems take an important place in engineering applications and are used in many industrial systems: gas turbines, compressors, jet engines, machine-tool spindles, etc. The spindle is an essential component of manufacturing systems involving ...

A numerical manifold method (NMM) for plane micropolar elasticity is proposed in this paper to consider the microstructure influence of materials. First, the basic formulations of plane micropolar elasticity are briefly introduced. Then, the equations of s ...

For the past couple of decades the desire to add more complexity to a computer chip, while simultaneously reducing the cost per bit, has been accommodated by down-scaling. This approach has been extremely successful in the past, but like all good things it ...

This work addresses nonlinear finite element analysis of laminated structures with weak interfaces. Considered first are shallow laminated beams subject to arbitrary large displacements, small layer strains and moderate interface slippage. Under these requ ...
