The integration of conducting and semiconducting architectures within thermally drawn thin and flexible fibers is emerging as a versatile platform for smart sensors and imaging systems, medical and biological probes, energy harvesting and advanced textile. ...

We investigate the combination of Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) based on the Galerkin method for model order reduction of linear parabolic partial differential equations. For the proposed fully discrete scheme, the a ...

Lead halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs), also called perovskite nanocrystals, are considered as one of the most promising classes of photovoltaic materials for solar cells due to their prominent optoelectronic properties and simple preparation technique ...

Optical frequency combs are a series of phase-locked and equidistant laser lines in the spectral domain. In the time domain, they correspond to periodic pulse trains by the Fourier relation. The ability to shape optical combs and pulse trains is pivotal to ...

The present invention concerns a method of method of relighting a media item comprising media elements. The method comprises, for at least some of the media elements: determining, in a first signal domain, a light transport function describing the appearan ...

Self-referencing turns pulsed laser systems into self-referenced frequency combs. Such frequency combs allow counting of optical frequencies and have a wide range of applications. The required optical bandwidth to implement self-referencing is typically ob ...

The aim of this thesis is to implement, analyze and improve the selected low noise clock generation and distribution techniques for ADC implementations. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the sampling phase generation and distr ...

In molecular clouds, stars are formed from a mixture of gas, plasma and dust particles. The dynamics of this formation is still actively investigated and a study of dust coagulation can help to shed light on this process. Starting from a pre-existing discr ...

In social learning, agents form their opinions or beliefs about certain hypotheses by exchanging local information. This work considers the recent paradigm of weak graphs, where the network is partitioned into sending and receiving components, with the for ...

This article develops a proximal primal-dual decentralized strategy for multiagent optimization problems that involve multiple coupled affine constraints, where each constraint may involve only a subset of the agents. The constraints are generally sparse, ...

In this paper, we propose a semi-implicit approach for the time discretization of the Navier–Stokes equations with Variational Multiscale-Large Eddy Simulation turbulence modeling (VMS-LES). For the spatial approximation of the problem, we use the Finite E ...

Systems with hundreds of microphones for acoustic field acquisition, or hundreds of loudspeakers for rendering, have been proposed and built. To analyze, design, and apply such systems requires a framework that allows us to leverage the vast set of tools a ...

A reliable novel monitoring approach is developed to assess the structural condition of reinforced-concrete bridge elements. The approach is based on combining acoustic emission technique and strain gauge measurements, and it is illustrated by a case study ...

In the present thesis we demonstrate how under the appropriate dynamic control of light propagation, multimode fibers can be transformed into deterministic optical elements that along with their ultrathin size, large number of degrees of freedom and high N ...

The discrete time analysis of the phase detector linear range extension in the first and the second order sub sampling phase-locked loop (SSPLL) is presented. The aim is to understand how much the stability and the pull-in range are affected by the linear ...

The analysis of the effect of sub-sampling phase detector (SSPD) timing nonidealities on Type-I sub-sampling phase-locked loop (SSPLL) is presented. The nonidealities considered are the delay between the complementary sampling clocks and the propagation de ...

This work presents and studies a distributed algorithm for solving optimization problems over networks where agents have individual costs to minimize subject to subspace constraints that require the minimizers across the network to lie in a low-dimensional ...

Euclidean distance matrices (EDMs) are central players in many diverse fields including psychometrics, NMR spectroscopy, machine learning and sensor networks. However, they are not often exploited in signal processing. In this thesis, we analyze attributes ...

This paper studies the operation of multi-agent networks engaged in binary decision tasks, and derives performance expressions and performance operating curves under challenging conditions with some revealing insights. One of the main challenges in the ana ...

For a given time or frequency spread, one can always find continuous- time signals, which achieve the Heisenberg uncertainty principle bound. This is known, however, not to be the case for discrete-time sequences; only widely spread sequences asymptoticall ...
