Metal oxide (MexOy) nanomaterials are used as catalysts and/or sorbents in processes taking place in supercritical water (scH2O), which is the “green” solvent needed to obtain energy-relevant products. Their properties are significantly influenced by the s ...

The dependency on fossil fuels and their impact on the environment is a matter of great concern for the future sustainability of modern society. The development of the "green" technologies which utilize renewable energy sources is now under investigation. ...

Vortex drop shafts serve to overcome important elevation differences in drainage systems. If well designed, they are performant in terms of energy dissipation and safety. However, the standard design requires well-defined approach flow conditions to ensure ...

The present study aims at studying the supercritical water gasification (SCWG) of the leftover Brazilian ginseng roots after phytochemicals extraction for synthetic natural gas (SNG) production, envisioning the development of a promising Brazilian ginseng ...

A numerical model to show the impact of the adsorption bed geometry on the desulfurization process of wet biomass under supercritical water (SCW) gasification process has been developed. Three different geometries, straight channels (pipe), sharp-edged cha ...

Molecular surface functionalization of metallic catalysts is emerging as an ever-developing approach to tuning their catalytic performance. Here, we report the synthesis of hybrid catalysts comprising copper nanocrystals (CuNCs) and an imidazolium ligand f ...

In this study, we discuss the difference regarding thermo-economic and environmental (water intake) aspects between two methods of biomass hydrolysis. A thermo-economic model was developed using Aspen Plus® and MATLAB software in order to analyze the energ ...

The depletion of carbon-based fossil fuels and the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration will force an inevitable change in the future global energy landscape. CO2 reduction presents the advantages of decreasing its atmospheric concentration and ...

The outstanding performance of NiOOH/FeOOH-based oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts is rationalized in terms of a bifunctional mechanism involving two distinct active sites. In this mechanism, the OOHads reaction intermediate, which unfavorably affe ...

Apparatus for salt separation (2) under supercritical water conditions, comprising a heat exchanger (4) and a fluidized bed reactor (6). The fluidized bed reactor comprising a supercritical water pressure containing wall (8) defining therein a fluidized be ...

In this thesis, we consider an anisotropic finite-range bond percolation model on

\mathbb{Z}^2

. On each horizontal layer

\{(x,i):x\in\mathbb{Z}\}

for

i\in\mathbb{Z}

, we have edges

\langle(x,i),(y,i)\rangle

1\leq|x-y|\leq N

with $N\in\mathbb{N ...

The overall aim of this work has been to develop sustainable solid thermally activated foam precursors suitable for the in-line production of lightweight bio-based foam core sandwich structures with consolidated wood particle facings, using a non-inflammab ...

Supercritical water gasification (SCWG) is a promising and versatile technology for the conversion of a variety of wet biomass streams into renewable natural gas. In this work, the focus was set on methane production with the help of an active and stable m ...

The present study focused on the thermal hydraulic performance improvement of a CO2 gas cooler with the principal goal of reducing its volume, and consequently the necessary charge of the working fluid. To achieve this compactness, the leading methods for ...

The present study evaluates the use of supercritical fluid technology, particularly supercritical water gasification (SCWG), to add value to residues from a sugarcane biorefinery that produces first and second generation ethanol. This case study aims at el ...

Supercritical (SC) fluid technologies are well-established methods in modern green chemical synthesis. Using SC fluids as solvents instead of traditional liquids gives benefits of higher diffusivity and lower viscosity, which allows mass transfer intensifi ...

A brief overview of the literature relating to electrochemical studies and processes undertaken in supercritical fluids is presented. This review mostly concerns carbon dioxide and hydrofluorocarbons, given the accessibility of their supercritical states, ...

The electrochemical oxidation and reduction of decamethylferrocene is demonstrated in supercritical carbon dioxide at a macro gold disc electrode at 100 bar and 313 K. Fast mass transport effects were exhibited and the corresponding steady-state voltammetr ...

Supercritical carbon dioxide processing of poly--lactide (PLLA)/hydroxyapatite (nHA) nanocomposites was investigated as a means to prepare foams suitable as scaffolds in bone tissue engineering applications. For given foaming parameters, addition of nHA to ...

The development of new processes for the selective and sustainable transformation of abundant small molecules constitutes one of the major research areas in inorganic and organometallic chemistry. These molecules as CO2, CO, N2 and H2 are abundant reservoi ...
