The main focus of this thesis is the exploration of inorganic and metal-organic heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogen (H2) energy applications. In particular, we investigated metal nanoparticles (NPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for their employment ...

Carbon neutrality has been proposed as a commitment by the international communities for the well-being of human. To achieve carbon neutrality, one practical approach is to synthesize fuels and chemicals through CO2 hydrogenation to replace fossil fuels. C ...

The world needs to move from a fossil fuel to a renewable energy based society. With the increasing electricity production from wind and PV, short and long term energy storage are becoming one of challenge of the 21st century. While batteries are the prefe ...

Designing cost-effective electrocatalysts for electrochemical water splitting to generate the hydrogen energy as a future energy source is pivotal. An excellent catalyst should show high catalytic activity for both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxy ...

Producing hydrogen from water using a redox mediator on solid electrocatalyst particles in a reactor offers several advantages over classical electrolysis in terms of safety, membrane degradation, purity and flexibility. Herein, vanadium-mediated hydrogen ...

In an electrochemical reactor (R) for producing oxygen and hydrogen by means of electrolysis of an electrolyte (16), wherein the electrochemical reactor (R) comprises a first electrode set (S) and wherein the first electrode set (S) comprises a first elect ...

Tetrapyrrole derivatives such as porphyrins, phthalocyanines, naphthalocyanines, and porpholactones, are highly stable macrocyclic compounds that play important roles in many phenomena linked to the development of life. Their complexes with lanthanides are ...

The storage of renewable energy is crucial for the substitution of fossil fuels with renewable energy. Hydrogen is the first step in the conversion of electricity from renewable sources to an energy carrier. However, hydrogen is technically and economicall ...

The electrochemical splitting of water holds promise for the storage of energy produced intermittently by renewable energy sources. The evolution of hydrogen currently relies on the use of platinum as a catalyst-which is scarce and expensive-and ongoing re ...

Achieving an efficient and stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an acidic or neutral medium is of paramount importance for hydrogen production via proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEM-WE). Supported iridium-based nanoparticles (NPs) are th ...

Micro-particle formation in low pressure silane (SiH4) plasmas has been of technical interest and concern for at least 40 years. Negative ion plasma chemistry is a candidate for the initial nucleation, which has been extensively studied both experimentally ...

The intermetallic compound PdGa has recently attracted considerable interest for combining high catalytic activity with high reaction selectivity in symmetric heterogeneous catalysis, in particular semi-hydrogenation of acetylene and methanol steam reformi ...

Hydrogen fuel cell is a promising green technology that transforms the chemical energy in hydrogen into electricity. Currently, most of the efforts are focused on developing proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), however they are heavily dependent o ...

Renewable energy supply and energy storage in a closed materials cycle are the urgent global challenges of the 21st century. Carbon dioxide (CO2) hydrogenation over catalysts is a method to produce synthetic fuels from renewable energy in a CO2 neutral cyc ...

Multiscale characterization of the hydrogenation process of silicon solar cell contacts based on c-Si/SiOx/ncSiCx(p) has been performed by combining dynamic secondary ion mass-spectrometry (D-SIMS), atom probe tomography (APT), and transmission electron mi ...
