The recent introduction of high entropy alloys presents an exciting opportunity for novel material performance, offering extensive possibilities for tailoring material properties. Dislocation mechanisms in these alloys must be fully understood since they p ...

The FLUKA Monte Carlo code has recently undergone significant enhancements, driven by needs from its user community. Key improvements are discussed, such as a new point-wise treatment for the interactions of low-energy neutrons, the incorporation of a new ...

Computer simulations are often used as support material for science education, as they can engage students through inquiry-based learning, promote their active interaction in the experimentation phase, and help them visualize abstract concepts. For instanc ...

While bottom-up synthesis allows for precise control over the properties of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), the use of certain precursor molecules can result in edge defects, such as missing benzene rings that resemble a 'bite'. We investigate the adverse eff ...

One of the major challenges for the design of future thermonuclear reactors is the problem of power exhaust — the removal of heat fluxes deposited by plasma particles onto the plasma-facing components (PFCs) of the reactor wall. In order for the reactor to ...

Analysis of the temperature- and stimulus-dependent imaging data toward elucidation of the physical transformations is an ubiquitous problem in multiple fields. Here, temperature-induced phase transition in BaTiO3 is explored using the machine learning ana ...

Maxwell's equations govern light propagation and its interaction with matter. Therefore, the solution of Maxwell's equations using computational electromagnetic simulations plays a critical role in understanding light-matter interaction and designing optic ...

The role of deep defects and their physical origin in InGaN/GaN LED are still widely investigated and debated, in particular their impact on the electrical and optical characteristics and on the reliability of the device. In this paper we evaluate the elec ...

Laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) has gained significant research interest, not only for its profound advantage of producing near-net shape complex geometries of metallic parts, but also for the possibility of producing tailored microstructures. Here we expl ...

Aqueous zinc metal batteries with mild acidic electrolytes are considered promising candidates for large-scale energy storage. However, the Zn anode suffers from severe Zn dendrite growth and side reactions due to the unstable interfacial pH and the absenc ...

A projection-based reduced order model (ROM) based on the Fourier collocation method is proposed for compressible flows. The incorporation of localized artificial viscosity model and filtering is pursued to enhance the robustness and accuracy of the ROM fo ...

Convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) performed on two-dimensional (2D) materials recently emerged as a powerful tool to study structural and stacking defects, adsorbates, atomic 3D displacements in the layers, and the interlayer distances. The forma ...

We revisit analytical methods for constraining the nonperturbative S-matrix of unitary, relativistic, gapped theories in d >= 3 spacetime dimensions. We assume extended analyticity of the two-to-two scattering amplitude and use it together with elastic uni ...

Magnetic thin films and magnetic nanostructures have become essential components of modern technological applications. Modern branches of magnetisms focus on spin-charge coupling (spintronics) and the collective excitation of spin waves in magnetically ord ...

Progress in computing capabilities has enhanced science in many ways. In recent years, various branches of machine learning have been the key facilitators in forging new paths, ranging from categorizing big data to instrumental control, from materials desi ...

We investigate experimentally and theoretically diffusiophoretic separation of negatively charged particles in a rectangular channel flow, driven by CO2 dissolution from one side-wall. Since the negatively charged particles create an exclusion zone near th ...

Skin-attachable gas sensors provide a next-generation wearable platform for real-time protection of human health by monitoring environmental and physiological chemicals. However, the creation of skin-like wearable gas sensors, possessing high sensitivity, ...

A search is presented for new particles produced at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, using events with energetic jets and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated lumino ...
