Long Range (LoRa) is an emerging low-power wide-area network technology offering long-range wireless connectivity to Internet of Things (IoT) devices. For energy efficiency reasons, LoRa end nodes implement a nonslotted ALOHA multiple access scheme to tran ...

Moving towards an increased understanding of the dynamic processes in the edge of tokamak plasmas requires continuous innovation in diagnostic capabilities, pushing the envelope in both spatial and temporal dimenstions. Plasma density and rotation, and the ...

A 4 GHz, 100 kb/s FM-UWB transceiver for short-range communications in a body area network is presented. Two receivers and a transmitter use the same RF port with a fully-integrated matching network. The first receiver provides multi-user communication cap ...

The WiseSkin project aims to provide a non-invasive solution for restoration of a natural sense of touch to persons using prosthetic limbs. By embedding sensor nodes into the silicone coating of the prosthesis, which acts as a sensory skin, WiseSkin target ...

While wireless communication has become an ubiquitous part of our daily life and the world around us, it has not been able yet to deliver the multi-gigabit throughput required for applications like high-definition video transmission or cellular backhaul co ...

Next generation of smart tires will improve the safety and stability of the vehicle by monitoring road parameters, such as pavement and rolling conditions, with sensors placed on tire surface. Between the tread and the metal belt of the tire there are only ...

As CMOS processes continue to scale to smaller dimensions, the increased fT of the devices and smaller parasitic capacitance allow formore power efficient and faster digital circuits to be made. But at the same time, output impedance of transistors has gon ...

Finding theoretical limits on the performance of communication systems and designing schemes to achieve them is one of the fundamental questions in information theory. While the theory of point-to-point communication is well-investigated, most problems hav ...

This paper describes a receiver system design for impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) that operates at two carrier frequencies-3.494 and 3.993 GHz-with a 10-Mbps data rate. To reduce the power consumption of the front-end amplifiers, a super-regenerative ...

Energy-detection (ED) receivers can take advantage of the ranging and multipath resistance capabilities of impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) physical layers at a much lower complexity than coherent receivers. However, ED receivers are extremely vulnera ...

Impulse Radio Ultra-Wideband, in particular the recent standard IEEE 802.15.4a, is a primary candidate for implementing distance bounding protocols, thanks to its ability to perform accurate indoor ranging. Distance bounding protocols allow two wireless de ...

This paper brings additional light on the previously proposed two-step tracking algorithm for E1 CBOC tracking. More specifically, assessment of the different DLL and PLL tracking loop architectures are analyzed, taking into consideration coherent and non- ...

In this thesis we study Impulse-Radio Ultra-Wide Band (IR-UWB), a physical layer radio technology offering many features that make it a promising choice for future short-range wireless networks. The challenges in such networks are many, ranging from the co ...

Communication systems have played a key role in changing our lives as such systems help to access remote data and to transfer it to the end user when requested. Intelligent nodes, which can process and transmit information placed in a given environment can ...

Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) or mobile phones applications are not anymore restricted to multimedia or wireless communications, but have been extended to handle Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) functionalities. The new generation of portable ...

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method for equalizing a pulse signal corrupted by a noise and by various channel effects for obtaining a signal based on the periodic-sinc pulse, which is suitable for Finite Rate of Innovation (FRI) pr ...

We consider the problem of ranging with impulse radio (IR) ultra-wideband (UWB) radio under dense multipaths propagation environments and additive Gaussian noise. We propose a Bayesian detection algorithm where the prior distribution of the channel follows ...

Non-coherent energy-detection receivers are an attractive choice for IEEE 802.15.4a networks. They can exploit the ranging capabilities and the multipath resistance of impulse-radio ultra-wide band (IR-UWB) at a low complexity. However, IEEE 802.15.4a rece ...

Energy-detection is appealing for IEEE 802.15.4a receivers as it allows to exploit the ranging capabilities and the multipath resistance of impulse-radio UWB at a reasonable complexity. IEEE 802.15.4a receivers operate with interference created by uncontro ...

We present a clock-offset tracking algorithm for impulse-radio ultra-wide band (IR-UWB) energy-detection receivers. There is a complexity versus performance trade-off for the design of IR-UWB energy-detection receivers: Extremely low-complexity energy-dete ...
