Plasma start-up is a crucial phase for tokamak operations and its design and optimization is getting more and more attention in view of the operation of future large tokamaks like ITER, where costs, risks and operational limits require more design tools. M ...

The 'density limit' is one of the fundamental bounds on tokamak operating space, and is commonly estimated via the empirical Greenwald scaling. This limit has garnered renewed interest in recent years as it has become clear that ITER and many tokamak pilot ...

We present the first validated synthetic diagnostic for fast ion loss detectors (FILDs) in the Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) stellarator. This model has been developed on, and validated against experimental data from, a FILD provided by the National Institute for ...

Local defects in the manufacturing of high temperature superconducting cable-in-conduit conductors are known to be present at different stages of the conductor production. The impact of such defects on the performance of one module of the hybrid option of ...

An integrated modelling methodology for the calculation of realistic plasma neutron sources for the JET tokamak has been developed. The computational chain comprises TRANSP plasma transport and DRESS neutron spectrum calculations, and their coupling to the ...

Short bursts (similar to 1 ms) of gas, injecting similar to 10(17)-10(18) molecules of hydrogen and/or deuterium, lead to the observation of cold pulse propagation phenomenon in hydrogen plasmas of the ADITYA-U tokamak. After every injection, a sharp incre ...

The European DEMO, i.e. the demonstration fusion power plant designed in the framework of the Roadmap to Fusion Electricity by the EUROfusion Consortium, is approaching the end of the pre-conceptual design phase, to be accomplished with a Gate Review in 20 ...

Abandoning the assumption of nested magnetic surfaces in tokamak plasma expands the field of research and opens up new approaches for both theoretical and experimental plasma physics. The computer code KINX for calculations of the ideal MHD stability was d ...

In order to better identify the role of the magnetic topology on ITG and TEM instabilities, different MHD equilibria with increasing complexity are calculated using the CHEASE code [1]. We start from the geometry of the s-alpha cyclone benchmark case [2], ...

Plasma conditions for microcrystalline silicon deposition generally require a high flux of atomic hydrogen, relative to SiH alpha=0 -> 3 radicals, on the growing film. The necessary dominant partial pressure of hydrogen in the plasma is conventionally obta ...

For the ITER project it is clear that steps have to be taken in order to avoid or mitigate type-I ELMs when operating in the standard H-mode scenario. Otherwise, divertor power loads induced by intrinsic ELMs will result in an intolerably short divertor li ...

Results from an extensive profile database analysis of JET density profiles in H-mode show that the density peaking factor n(e0)/ < n(e) > in JET H-modes increases as the effective collisionality v(eff) congruent to 10(-14) RZ(eff)n(e)/T-e(2) drops from si ...

A formulation of the anisotropic pressure magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium problem for three-dimensional plasmas with imposed nested magnetic surfaces is developed based on a bi-Maxwellian model of the distribution function for the energetic particle specie ...
