The hunt for exotic quantum phase transitions described by emergent fractionalized de-grees of freedom coupled to gauge fields requires a precise determination of the fixed point structure from the field theoretical side, and an extreme sensitivity to weak ...

Dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP) of solids doped with high-spin metal ions, such as Gd3+, is a useful strategy to enhance the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) sensitivity for these samples. Spin diffusion can relay polarisation throughout a sample, which ...

Co3Sn2S2 has recently been predicted to be a Weyl semimetal in which magnetic order is key to its behavior as a topological material. Here, we report unpolarized neutron diffraction and spherical neutron polarimetry measurements, supported by magnetization ...

We present high signal-to-noise measurements of three-point shear correlations and the third moment of the mass aperture statistic using the first 3 years of data from the Dark Energy Survey. We additionally obtain the first measurements of the configurati ...

For high-impact devices, subsequent vibrations have as much influence on the deterioration of the mechanical structure as the impact itself. To mitigate the consequences of both impacts and resulting vibrations, it is crucial to accurately understand the p ...

Near-term quantum devices can be used to build quantum machine learning models, such as quantum kernel methods and quantum neural networks (QNN), to perform classification tasks. There have been many proposals on how to use variational quantum circuits as ...

Tandem ion mobility mass spectrometry-coupled laser excitation is used to record photodetachment, photoisomerization and photodepletion action spectra for a series of deprotomer-selected hydroxycinnamate anions, including deprotonated caffeic, ferulic and ...

This paper presents a dedicated study of plasma-antenna (PA) coupling with the Alfven Eigenmode Active Diagnostic (AEAD) in JET. Stable AEs and their resonant frequencies f, damping rates gamma < 0, and toroidal mode numbers n are measured for various PA s ...

Bioprinting of functional tissues could overcome tissue shortages and allow a more rapid response for treatments. However, despite recent progress in bioprinting, and its outstanding ability to position cells and biomaterials in a precise 3D manner, its su ...

The present manuscript documents the development of a practical calculation scheme to model the response of a diamond detector in the mixed (neutron and gamma) radiation field of the CROCUS experimental reactor at EPFL. The model is shown to perform reason ...

We develop an ab initio method to simulate the infrared vibrational response of metallic systems in the framework of time-dependent density functional perturbation theory. By introducing a generalized frequency-dependent Born effective charge tensor, we sh ...

Local gyrokinetic simulations use a field-aligned domain that twists due to the magnetic shear of the background magnetic equilibrium. However, if the magnetic shear is strong and/or the domain is long, the twist can become so extreme that it fails to prop ...

Motivated by the recently observed intriguing mode splittings in a magnetic field with inelastic neutron scattering in the spin ladder compound (C5H12N)(2) CuBr4 (BPCB), we investigate the nature of the spin ladder excitations using a density matrix renorm ...

Recently, the very first large-gap Kane-Mele quantum spin Hall insulator was predicted to be monolayer jacutingaite (Pt2HgSe3), a naturally occurring exfoliable mineral discovered in Brazil in 2008. The stacking of quantum spin Hall monolayers into a van-d ...

We present a study of a simple model antiferromagnet consisting of a sum of nearest-neighbor SO(N) singlet projectors on the kagome lattice. Our model shares some features with the popular S = 1/2 kagome antiferromagnet but is specifically designed to be f ...

Particles beyond the Standard Model (SM) can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, these long-lived particles (LLPs) can decay far ...

In this paper we investigate the direct effect of resonator quality factor (Q) on the oscillator phase noise. We use 2-port contour mode resonators (CMRs), fabricated both with aluminum nitride (AlN) and aluminum scandium nitride (AlScN), as the frequency- ...

Alkaline anion exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolysis is a promising technology for producing hydrogen using renewable energies. However, current AEM electrolyzers still employ noble-metal-containing electrocatalysts, or have significant overpotential ...

Motivated by the presence of Ising transitions that take place entirely in the singlet sector of frustrated spin-1/2 ladders and spin-1 chains, we study two types of effective dimer models on ladders, a quantum dimer model and a quantum loop model. Buildin ...
