Interfaces between peptides and metallic surfaces are the subject of great interest for possible use in technological and medicinal applications, mainly since organic systems present an extensive range of functionalities, are abundant, cheap, and exhibit l ...

Production quality and process efficiency are the two main drivers that lead any industrial strategy. To ensure product quality, a duality historically existed between two approaches, namely batch sampling and systematic sampling. In batch sampling, the ba ...

Testing mutual independence among several random vectors of arbitrary dimensions is a challenging problem in Statistics, and it has gained considerable interest in recent years. In this article, we propose some nonparametric tests based on different notion ...

Deep learning algorithms are responsible for a technological revolution in a variety oftasks including image recognition or Go playing. Yet, why they work is not understood.Ultimately, they manage to classify data lying in high dimension – a feat generical ...

The proliferation of phasor measurement units (PMUs) presents new challenges in archiving and processing large amounts of synchrophasor data which necessitates advanced data compression methods. This paper proposes a singular value decomposition (SVD)-base ...

The measurement and classification of light is essential across many scientific disciplines. Devices used to measure light range from the highly precise scanning spectroradiometers to the more practical compact multichannel filter-array type imaging sensor ...

The Quantum Fisher Information matrix (QFIM) is a central metric in promising algorithms, such as Quantum Natural Gradient Descent and Variational Quantum Imaginary Time Evolution. Computing the full QFIM for a model with d parameters, however, is computat ...

Our work addresses long-term motion context issues for predicting future frames. To predict the future precisely, it is required to capture which long-term motion context (e.g., walking or running) the input motion (e.g., leg movement) belongs to. The bott ...

Background: Functional connectomes (FCs) have been shown to provide a reproducible individual fingerprint, which has opened the possibility of personalized medicine for neuro/psychiatric disorders. Thus, developing accurate ways to compare FCs is essential ...

The utility of machine learning in understanding the motor system is promising a revolution in how to collect, measure, and analyze data. The field of movement science already elegantly incorporates theory and engineering principles to guide experimental w ...

In this paper we revisit the kernel density estimation problem: given a kernel K(x, y) and a dataset of n points in high dimensional Euclidean space, prepare a data structure that can quickly output, given a query q, a (1 + epsilon)-approximation to mu := ...

In order to perform network analysis tasks, representations that capture the most relevant information in the graph structure are needed. However, existing methods learn representations that cannot be interpreted in a straightforward way and that are relat ...
