The aim of rationally designed composites called metamaterials or metasurfaces is to achieve effective properties that go beyond those of their constituent parts. For periodic architectures, the design can draw on concepts from solid-state physics, such as ...

Two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal lattices of Cu disks are shown to induce orientation-dependent magnonic crystal (MC) modes for propagating forward volume spin waves in a single-crystal yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film. The width and depth of the magnonic band ...

Electromagnetic metasurfaces modulate a material's response to electromagnetic waves by specifically arranged elements with dimensions below the wavelength. They have opened new fields of research, including flat optics and nanophotonics on a chip. Ferroma ...

Magnons (spin waves, SWs) are elementary spin excitations in magnetically ordered materials. They are the promising quanta for the transmission and processing of information. Magnons can be coupled to the electromagnetic waves utilized for the wireless com ...

Collective spin excitations can propagate in magnetically ordered materials in the form of waves. These so-called spin waves (SWs) or magnons are promising for low-power beyond-CMOS information processing, which does not rely anymore on the lossy movement ...

Magnetic thin films and magnetic nanostructures have become essential components of modern technological applications. Modern branches of magnetisms focus on spin-charge coupling (spintronics) and the collective excitation of spin waves in magnetically ord ...

Quasicrystals are aperiodically ordered structures with unconventional rotational symmetry. Their peculiar features have been explored in photonics to engineer bandgaps for light waves. Magnons (spin waves) are collective spin excitations in magnetically o ...

Raw data associated to the manuscript ‘’Spin wave dispersion of ultra-low damping hematite (α-Fe2O3) at GHz frequencies‘’, Physical Review Materials 7, 054407(2023); doi: 10.1103/PhysRevMaterials.7.054407 Information about file fo ...

Low magnetic damping and high group velocity of spin waves (SWs) or magnons are two crucial parameters for functional magnonic devices. Magnonics research on signal processing and wave-based computation at GHz frequencies focused on the artificial ferrimag ...

Spin waves can probe the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), which gives rise to topological spin textures, such as skyrmions. However, the DMI has not yet been reported in yttrium iron garnet (YIG) with arguably the lowest damping for spin waves. In ...

Coupling of spin waves with electromagnetic cavity field is demonstrated in an antiferromagnet, dysprosium ferrite (DyFeO3). By measuring transmission at 0.2-0.35 THz and sweeping sample temperature, magnon-photon coupling signatures were found at crossing ...

Spin waves (SWs) are collective excitations of the spin ensemble in systems with magnetic order. In quantum mechanics, a SW is known as a magnon, which is the quasiparticle describing the quantized nature of these wave-like excitations. Magnonics is the re ...

Magnons, quanta of spin waves, are known to enable information processing with low power consumption at the nanoscale. So far, however, experimentally realized half-adders, wave-logic and binary output operations were based on few µm-long spin waves and re ...

Quasicrystalline structures and aperiodic metamaterials find applications ranging from established consumer gadgets to potential high‐tech photonic components owing to both complex arrangements of constituents and exotic rotational symmetries. Magnonics is ...

We report the nonreciprocal excitation of propagating forward volume exchange spin waves in yttrium iron garnet (YIG) thin film with perpendicular anisotropy by bringing the in-plane magnetization of Co20Fe60B20 (CoFeB) nanowires to resonance. All-electric ...

We report on coherent propagation of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin waves over a long distance (similar to 10 mu m) at room temperature in a canted AFM alpha-Fe2O3 owing to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Unprecedented high group velocities (up ...

Boltzmann electron energy distribution poses a fundamental limit to lowering the energy dissipation of conventional MOS devices, a minimum increase of the gate voltage, i.e. 60 mV, is required for a 10-fold increase in drain-to-source current at 300 K. Neg ...

Dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP) of solids doped with high-spin metal ions, such as Gd3+, is a useful strategy to enhance the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) sensitivity for these samples. Spin diffusion can relay polarisation throughout a sample, which ...

The spin waves in single crystals of the layered van der Waals antiferromagnet CoPS3 have been measured using inelastic neutron scattering. The data show four distinct spin wave branches with large (>14 meV) energy gaps at the Brillouin zone center indicat ...

Herein, the optoelectronic properties of interface-engineered perovskite 2D|3D-heterojunction structure solar cells are reported. The reciprocity theorem is applied to determine the maximum open-circuit voltage (V-oc) the device can deliver under solar ill ...
