The concept of static and dynamic reservoirs is presented, and their performances are evaluated. The static reservoir is a simple reservoir with constant volume, and the dynamic one has a volume which varies as a function of the position of an internal pis ...

Uncontrolled Na dendrite growth and infinite volume change during cycling have greatly impeded the practical application of Na metal anode for high-energy-density batteries. To address these two issues simultaneously, a 3D vertical ultra-sodiophilic leaf-v ...

Functional materials that enable many technological applications in our everyday lives owe their unique properties to defects that are carefully engineered and incorporated into these materials during processing. However, optimizing and characterizing thes ...

In this work, alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) processes of three typical nickel-based electrocatalysts [i.e., Ni, alpha-Ni(OH)(2), and beta-Ni(OH)(2)] were investigated to probe critical factors that determine the activity and durability. The HE ...

At SMEAR II research station in Hyytiala, located in the Finnish boreal forest, the process of new particle formation and the role of ions has been investigated for almost 20 years near the ground and at canopy level. However, above SMEAR II, the vertical ...

Governments are setting ambitious targets to tackle the issue of global warming by switching to renewable energy sources and reducing CO2 -emissions. For example, as announced in November 2020, Canada aims to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050. Large c ...

The performance of perovskite solar cells is highly dependent on the fabrication method; thus, controlling the growth mechanism of perovskite crystals is a promising way towards increasing their efficiency and stability. Herein, a multi-cation halide compo ...

Interfacial modification is crucial to fully develop the potential of semiconductor devices, including the revolutionary halide perovskite-based optoelectronics, such as photovoltaics, light-emitting diodes, and photodetectors. The all-inorganic halide per ...

Developing a high-performance catalyst and establishing a catalytic mechanism for understanding the catalytic activity are crucial to new generation photovoltaic technology. In this work, we present a feasible and general route to synthesize a bio-based po ...

Solid-oxide electrolyzer (SOE) based power-to-methane (PtM) system can efficiently store surplus renewable power into synthesis natural gas by electrolysis and methanation. The system performance depends on the operating point of the electrolyzer and syste ...

Solar-driven high-temperature electrolysis (HTE) and thermochemical cycles (TCC) are two promising pathways for fuel processing and energy storage, which are considered in this thesis. The goals of this thesis are: i) offering engineering guidelines at sys ...

A novel molecular-ink deposition route based on thiourea and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) that results in a certified solar cell efficiency world record for non-vacuum deposited CuIn(S,Se)(2) (CIS) absorbers and non-vacuum deposited absorbers with a bandgap ...

This article presents the evidence for the significant effect of copper accelerating the bacterial inactivation on Ti-Nb-Ta-Zr (TNTZ) sputtered films on glass up to a Cu content of 8.3 at.%. These films were deposited by dc magnetron co-sputtering of an al ...

Pinch analysis is a valuable tool for industrial process integration and optimization. Based on heat cascading and Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) the optimal utility system can be found, includ- ing traditional heat sources (burners, boilers) and ...
