High-strength metal alloys achieve their performance via careful control of precipitates and solutes. The nucleation, growth, and kinetics of precipitation, and the resulting mechanical properties, are inherently atomic scale phenomena, particularly during ...

The work needed to mechanically drive molten metal into a porous solid preform when producing a composite material by infiltration can significantly exceed the energy change required for thermodynamically reversible infiltration. We measure, by quantitativ ...

Crystalline silicon (c-Si) photovoltaics has long been considered energy intensive and costly. Over the past decades, spectacular improvements along the manufacturing chain have made c-Si a low-cost source of electricity that can no longer be ignored. Over ...

Silicon infiltrated silicon carbide (SiSiC) is one of the most promising and economical non-oxide ceramic matrix composites for high-temperature structural applications. In recent years infiltration by Si-alloys instead of pure Si has become popular to avo ...

The refinement and thermal stability of intermediate theta-prime (theta') precipitates are critical in the development of new high strength 2xxx series aluminium-copper (Al-Cu) alloys for high temperature applications. In this work, we use trace additions ...

The recombination of photogenerated charge carriers at metal-semiconductor interfaces remains a major source of efficiency loss in photovoltaic cells. Here, we present SiNx and AlOx nanolayers as promising interface dielectrics to enable high efficiency ho ...

Following our previous work (Chem. Sci. 2021, 12, 4889-4907), we study the structural dynamics of the SARS-CoV-2 Main Protease dimerization interface (apo dimer) by means of microsecond adaptive sampling molecular dynamics simulations (50 mu s) using the A ...

In labscale Faraday experiments, meniscus waves respond harmonically to small-amplitude forcing without threshold, hence potentially cloaking the instability onset of parametric waves. Their suppression can be achieved by imposing a contact line pinned at ...

Polysilicon recombination junctions whose n-type bottom layers double as a passivating contact to the silicon surface are investigated. Such recombination junctions are a key element in the interconnection of tandem devices with a silicon bottom cell, and ...

Digital technologies reshape the way we interact with our environment, including with artworks. Advanced computational imaging solutions allow having extremely high-resolution digital reproductions of artworks outside museums, presumably increasing artwork ...

SporTran is a Python utility designed to estimate generic transport coefficients in extended systems, based on the Green-Kubo theory of linear response and the recently introduced cepstral analysis of the current time series generated by molecular dynamics ...

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is envisioned to play a significant role in achieving carbon neutrality while contributing to storing renewable energies. Cu-based materials are among the most promising electrocatalysts. However, 16 diffe ...
