Lipid peroxidation products, particularly the reactive aldehyde, 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), is an important marker for oxidative stress and a potential contributor to the pathogenesis of chronic diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders. This thesis d ...

The invention provides fusion protein comprising a SCAN domain bearing member of a zinc finger-containing protein, a fragment or variant thereof and a catalytically inactive RNA- guided endonuclease or a DNA adenine methyltransferase. Preferably, the fusio ...

Cells rely on multiple protein quality control (PQC) pathways, including molecular chaperone-assisted folding and degradation systems, to maintain proteome integrity and functionality. These pathways work together to reduce the risk of toxic protein aggreg ...

Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever Virus (CCHFV) is spread by infected ticks or direct contact with blood, tissues and fluids from infected patients or livestock. Infection with CCHFV causes severe haemorrhagic fever in humans which is fatal in up to 83 % of ...

Background Excessive inflammation, hemolysis, and accumulation of labile heme play an essential role in the pathophysiology of multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) in sepsis. Alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT), an acute phase protein with heme binding capacity, i ...

Networks of tryptophan (Trp)& horbar;an aromatic amino acid with strong fluorescence response & horbar;are ubiquitous in biological systems, forming diverse architectures in transmembrane proteins, cytoskeletal filaments, subneuronal elements, photorecepto ...

Among the inherited myopathies, a group of muscular disorders characterized by structural and metabolic impairments in skeletal muscle, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) stands out for its devastating progression. DMD pathogenesis is driven by the progress ...

The septation initiation network (SIN) is a conserved signal transduction network, which is important for cytokinesis in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. The SIN component Etd1p is required for association of some SIN proteins with the spindle pole body (SPB) du ...

The Septation Initiation Network (SIN) is a conserved signal transduction network, which is important for cytokinesis in S. pombe. The SIN component Etd1p is required for association of some SIN proteins with the spindle pole body (SPB) during anaphase and ...

Redox biology and immune signaling play major roles in the body, including in brain function. A rapidly growing literature also suggests that redox and immune abnormalities are implicated in neuropsychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia (SZ), bipolar d ...

Plasma lipids are modulated by gene variants and many environmental factors, including diet-associated weight gain. However, understanding how these factors jointly interact to influence molecular networks that regulate plasma lipid levels is limited. Here ...

Emerging evidence suggest that transcription factors play multiple roles in the development of pancreatitis, a necroinflammatory condition lacking specific therapy. Estrogen-related receptor γ (ERRγ), a pleiotropic transcription factor, has been reported t ...

Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Early-stage disease can be detected with preventative medical screening and is treatable with surgical resection. Sixty-percent of patients, however, are diagnosed with advanced-stage ...

Structural, functional and molecular cardiac defects have been reported in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) patients and mouse models. Previous quantitative proteomics analyses demonstrated widespread molecular defects in the severe Taiwanese SMA mouse model. ...

Microorganisms known as exoelectrogens evolved the ability of transporting electrons across insulating biological membranes. In a physiological context, this enables respiration on extracellular electron acceptors and electron transfer to other organisms. ...

Hyperpolarization of 13C by dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP) boosts the sensitivity of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), making possible the monitoring in vivo and in real time of the biochemical reactions of exogenously infused 13C-lab ...

Short-term synaptic plasticity and modulations of the presynaptic vesicle release rate are key components of many working memory models. At the same time, an increasing number of studies suggests a potential role of astrocytes in modulating higher cognitiv ...

ObjectiveA Delta-Notch signaling component, Notch1, is involved in the normal development and multiple disorders of the kidney. Although the increase in Notch1 signaling is crucial to these pathogeneses, the basal signaling level in 'healthy' mature kidney ...

The serine protease prostasin (CAP1/Prss8, channel-activating protease-1) is a confirmed in vitro and in vivo activator of the epithelial sodium channel ENaC. To test whether proteolytic activity or CAP1/Prss8 abundance itself are required for ENaC activat ...

Aims B cell functions in the process of atherogenesis have been investigated but several aspects remain to be clarified. ...
