Due to its high parallelism, belief propagation (BP)decoding is amenable to high-throughput applications and thusrepresents a promising solution for the ultra-high peak datarate required by future communication systems. To bridge theperformance gap compare ...

This work addresses the problem of learning the topology of a network from the signals emitted by the network nodes. These signals are generated over time through a linear diffusion process, where neighboring nodes exchange messages according to the underl ...

This paper proposes a tower-foot grounding system model compatible with EMT programs which might be useful for the simulation of lightning transients in overhead lines. The proposed model is based on the solution of the telegrapher's equations and the appl ...

An exact analytical expression for the electric field of the return stroke as excited by a propagating step current source is derived in this paper. This expression could be advantageously used to evaluate the disturbances caused by lightning on overhead l ...

Network neutrality is important for users, content providers, policymakers, and regulators interested in understanding how network providers differentiate performance. When determining whether a network differentiates against certain traffic, it is importa ...

Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are habitually trained via the back-propagation (BP) algorithm. This approach has been extremely successful: Current models like GPT-3 have O(10 11 ) parameters, are trained on O(10 11 ) words and produce awe-inspiring resu ...

The landscape of computing is changing, thanks to the advent of modern networking equipment that allows machines to exchange information in as little as one microsecond. Such advancement has enabled microsecond-scale distributed computing, where entire dis ...

Decentralized signal control of congested traffic networks based on the Max-Pressure (MP) controller is theoretically proven to maximize throughput, stabilize the system and balance queues for single intersections under specific conditions. However, its pe ...

Timely insights lead to business growth and scientific breakthroughs but require analytical engines that cope with the ever-increasing data processing needs. Analytical engines relied on rapid CPU improvements, yet the end of Dennard scaling stopped the fr ...

Dampers are devices that reduce delay jitter in the context of time-sensitive networks, by delaying packets for the amount written in packet headers. Jitter reduction is required by some real-time applications; beyond this, dampers have the potential to so ...

Traffic congestion constitutes one of the most frequent, yet challenging, problems to address in the urban space. Caused by the concentration of population, whose mobility needs surpass the serving capacity of urban networks, congestion cannot be resolved ...

Modern trains act as Faraday cages making it challenging to provide high cellular data capacities to passengers. A solution is the deployment of linear cells along railway tracks, forming a cellular corridor. To provide a sufficiently high data capacity, m ...

Modern UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) suffer from restrictions in flight range and time due to battery capacity limitations. One way to overcome these limitations is to harvest energy from overhead power lines. A growing body of scientific literature has ...

This article addresses the problem of simultaneous distributed state estimation, and control of linear systems with linear state feedback, subjected to process, and measurement noise, under the constraints of quantized, and rate-limited network data transm ...

This paper investigates the effect of frequency-dependent soil parameters on the simulation of electromagnetic transients on overhead lines, based on the application of the FDTD method to solve the telegrapher’s equations. The ground return impedance is ca ...

This article proposes a method for the derivation of a formula that links the maximum lightning-induced-overvoltage occurring on an overhead distribution line with the variables that characterize the lightning return stroke, such as the peak current, front ...

A closed time-reversal (TR) cavity has been considered a purely theoretical concept whose experimental realization was assumed to be impossible. In this article, we demonstrate that it is, in fact, possible to realize a closed TR cavity using a network of ...

We present GARFIELD, a library to transparently make machine learning (ML) applications, initially built with popular (but fragile) frameworks, e.g., TensorFlow and PyTorch, Byzantine–resilient. GARFIELD relies on a novel object–oriented design, reducing t ...

LoRa is a popular low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technology that uses spread-spectrum to achieve long-range connectivity and resilience to noise and interference. For energy efficiency reasons, LoRa adopts a pure ALOHA access scheme, which leads to re ...

This work presents new secondary regulators for current sharing and voltage balancing in DC microgrids, composed of distributed generation units, dynamic RLC lines, and nonlinear ZIP (constant impedance, constant current, and constant power) loads. The pro ...
