A Bayesian optimization framework is used to investigate scenarios for disruptions mitigated with combined deuterium and neon injection in ITER. The optimization cost function takes into account limits on the maximum runaway current, the transported fracti ...

Censuses are structured documents of great value for social and demographic history, which became widespread from the nineteenth century on. However, the plurality of formats and the natural variability of historical data make their extraction arduous and ...

This manuscript offers the perspective of experimentalists on a number of modern data-driven techniques: model predictive control relying on Gaussian processes, adaptive data-driven control based on behavioral theory, and deep reinforcement learning. These ...

Deep learning (DL) has been wildly successful in practice, and most of the state-of-the-art machine learning methods are based on neural networks (NNs). Lacking, however, is a rigorous mathematical theory that adequately explains the amazing performance of ...

Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging (dMRI) is a powerful non-invasive method for studying white matter tracts of the brain. However, accurate microstructure estimation with fiber orientation distribution (FOD) using existing computational methods requires ...

Characteristics of the spent nuclear fuel (SNF) are typically calculated, requiring validation a priori. The validation process relies on the difference between calculations and measurements, namely the bias. Usually, predicting the bias based on benchmark ...

With increasing urbanization and depleting reserves of raw materials for construction, sustainable management of existing infrastructure will be an important challenge in this century. Structural sensing has the potential to increase knowledge of infrastru ...

We address the challenge of learning factored policies in cooperative MARL scenarios. In particular, we consider the situation in which a team of agents collaborates to optimize a common cost. The goal is to obtain factored policies that determine the indi ...

This work proposes a new way of combining independently trained classifiers over space and time. Combination over space means that the outputs of spatially distributed classifiers are aggregated. Combination over time means that the classifiers respond to ...

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is recognized as a top priority for school education worldwide and Inquiry-based teaching and learning is identified as one of the most dominant approaches. To effectively engage individual ...

Accurate measurement-data interpretation leads to increased understanding of structural behavior and enhanced asset-management decision making. In this paper, four data-interpretation methodologies, residual minimization, traditional Bayesian model updatin ...

This document describes the softwares, data, models and raw results associated to: Danalet, A., Tinguely, L., Lapparent, M. d. and Bierlaire, M. (2016). Location choice with longitudinal WiFi data, Journal of Choice Modelling 18: 1–17. URL: https://dx.doi. ...

In this paper, we propose a methodology to use the communication network infrastructure, in particular WiFi traces, to detect the sequence of activity episodes visited by pedestrians. Due to the poor quality of WiFi localization, a probabilistic method is ...

Markov chain Monte Carlo has been the standard technique for inferring the posterior distribution of genome rearrangement scenarios under a Bayesian approach. We present here a negative result on the rate of convergence of the generally used Markov chains. ...
