IntroductionOne-third of mothers rate their childbirth as traumatic. The prevalence of childbirth-related post-traumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) is 4.7%. Skin-to-skin contact is a protective factor against CB-PTSD. However, during a caesarean section (CS ...

The current approach to train Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is to employ a mannequin device replicating the physical properties of a real human head and torso. This aims to ensure a correct transfer of the cardiac massage location, amplitude and freq ...

Head‐mounted displays for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) allow users to see highly realistic virtual worlds. The wearable haptics that enable feeling and touching these virtual objects are typically bulky, tethered, and provide only low fi ...

Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) enable users to interact with computers without any dedicated movement, bringing new hands-free interaction paradigms. In this paper we study the combination of BCI and Augmented Reality (AR). We first tested the feasibilit ...

Visual distortions in processed 360-degree visual content and consumed through head-mounted displays (HMDs) are perceived very differently when compared to traditional 2D content. To better understand how compression-related artifacts affect the overall pe ...

Omnidirectional imaging has reached a level of widespread availability driven by recent advances in integrated circuit technology, image sensors, and computer graphics which allow now capturing, rendering and displaying of such type of immersive content in ...

Omnidirectional (or 360-degree) images and videos are emergent signals being used in many areas such as robotics and virtual/augmented reality. In particular, for virtual reality applications, they allow an immersive experience in which the user can intera ...

Traditionally, most multimedia content has been developed to stimulate two of the human senses, i.e., sight and hearing. Due to recent technological advancements, however, innovative services have been developed that provide more realistic, immersive, and ...

Unlike traditional planar 2D visual content, immersive 360-degree images and videos undergo particular processing steps and are intended to be consumed via head-mounted displays (HMDs). To get a deeper understanding on the perception of 360-degree visual d ...

Modular robots (MRs) consist of similar modules that can be configured into different shapes. MRs introduce a number of benefits over conventional robots specifically designed for a task. Self-reconfigurable modular robots (SRMRs) are a sub-category of MRs ...

In Virtual Reality (VR) applications, understanding how users explore the omnidirectional content is important to optimize content creation, to develop user-centric services, or even to detect disorders in medical applications. Clustering users based on th ...

Omnidirectional (or 360-degree) images and videos are emergent signals in many areas such as robotics and virtual/augmented reality. In particular, for virtual reality, they allow an immersive experience in which the user is provided with a 360-degree fiel ...

Recent advances in depth sensing and display technologies, along with the significant growth of interest for augmented and virtual reality applications, lay the foundation for the rapid evolution of applications that provide immersive experiences. In such ...

Point clouds have recently emerged as a promising and practical solution to code 3D visual information for immersive applications. Among other challenges, objective and subjective quality assessments are still open problems for this type of visual data rep ...

Full immersion inside a Virtual Reality (VR) scene requires six Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) applications where the user is allowed to perform translational and rotational movements within the virtual space. The implementation of 6DoF applications is however ...

We present a first study where we combine two asymetric virtual reality systems for telecollaboration purposes: a CAVE system and a head-mounted display (HMD), using a server-client type architecture. Experiments on a puzzle game in limited time, alone and ...

While Virtual Reality applications attract the attention of developers and business analysts, the behavior of users watching 360-degree videos with Head-Mounted Display (HMD) has still to be understood. This paper introduces a dataset of the head movements ...

Objective: To investigate changes in body ownership and chronic neuropathic pain in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) using multisensory own body illusions and virtual reality (VR). Methods: Twenty patients with SCI with paraplegia and 20 healthy cont ...

Recent advances in Virtual Reality (VR) technologies have resulted in a wider availability of Head Mounted Displays (HMDs). However, it is still unclear if VR gaming offers a substantial added value to players. For this reason a comparison of gaming experi ...

Recently, there has been an increased interest in capture, processing and rendering of visual content in form of point clouds. Among other challenges, subjective and objective quality evaluation of point clouds are still open problems. Most proposed subjec ...
