Background In wild plant populations, genetic divergence within continuous stands is common, sometimes at very short geographical scales. While restrictions to gene flow combined with local inbreeding and genetic drift may cause neutral differentiation amo ...

Pt-group metal (PGM)-free catalysts of the Me-N-C type based on abundant and inexpensive elements have gained importance in the field of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysis due to their promising ORR-activities. Their insufficient stability, h ...

Identifying adaptively important loci in recently bottlenecked populations - be it natural selection acting on a population following the colonization of novel habitats in the wild, or artificial selection during the domestication of a breed - remains a ma ...

Simulations can be used to accelerate the characterization and discovery of materials. Here we Review how electronic-structure methods such as density functional theory work, what properties they can be used to predict and how they can be used to design ma ...

Population genetic differentiation characterizes the repartition of alleles among populations. It is commonly thought that genetic differentiation measures, such as G(ST) and D, should be near zero when allele frequencies are close to their expected value ...

This report presents an up-to-date review on the interaction of light with magnetic semiconductors during photocatalysis leading to bacterial inactivation and pollutant degradation. The acceleration in the photocatalytic reactions mediated by wide-band gap ...

Charged cydometalated (CN) iridium(III) complexes with carbene-based ancillary ligands are a promising family of deep-blue phosphorescent compounds. Their emission properties are controlled primarily by the main CN ligands, in contrast to the classic ...

Five-membered heterocycles are well known for their innate nucleophilicity. In contrast, reaction of these heterocycles as electrophiles is less established and has become only recently an intensively investigated research area in synthetic chemistry. The ...

Accurate computational predictions of band gaps are of practical importance to the modeling and development of semiconductor technologies, such as (opto)electronic devices and photoelectrochemical cells. Among available electronic-structure methods, densit ...

We report seven heteroleptic cationic iridium(III) complexes with cyclometalating N-arylazoles and alkyl/aryl isocyanides, ((CN)-N-boolean AND)(2)Ir(CNR)(2), and characterize two of them by crystal structure analysis. The complexes are air- and m ...

Beneficial mutations can co-occur when population structure slows down adaptation. Here, we consider the process of adaptation in asexual populations distributed over several locations ("islands"). New beneficial mutations arise at constant rate u(b), and ...

With the advent of next-generation sequencing technologies, large data sets of several thousand loci from multiple conspecific individuals are available. Such data sets should make it possible to obtain accurate estimates of population genetic parameters, ...

Populations of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), a large DNA virus, are highly polymorphic in patient samples, which may allow for rapid evolution within human hosts. To understand HCMV evolution, longitudinally sampled genomic populations from the urine and p ...

We have recorded the diffraction patterns from individual xenon clusters irradiated with intense extreme ultraviolet pulses to investigate the influence of light-induced electronic changes on the scattering response. The clusters were irradiated with short ...

We report new bis-cyclometalated cationic indium(III) complexes ((CN)-N-boolean AND)(2)Ir(CN-tert-Bu)(2) that have tert-butyl isocyanides as neutral auxiliary ligands and 2-phenylpyridine or 2-(4'-fluoropheny1)-R-pyridines (where R is 4-methoxy, ...

The field of quantum chemistry has recently undergone a series of paradigm shifts, including a boom in machine learning applications that target the electronic structure problem. Along with these technological innovations, the community continues to identi ...

Delayed fluorescence (DF) is a long-lived luminescence process used in a variety of applications ranging from oxygen sensing in biological tissues to organic Light Emitting Diodes. In common cases, DF results from the deexcitation of the first excited trip ...

Herein we report a series of charged iridium complexes emitting from near-UV to red using carbene-based (NC)-C-boolean AND: ancillary ligands. Synthesis, photophysical and electrochemical properties of this series are described in detail together with X-ra ...

The purpose of this article is twofold. On the one hand the method of spacial resolved photoemission spectroscopy on small angle tapered cross-sections (TCS) of complete devices is introduced to analyze simultaneously the chemical and electronic structure. ...
