Brain edema is considered as a common feature associated with hepatic encephalopathy (HE). However, its central role as cause or consequence of HE and its implication in the development of the neurological alterations linked to HE are still under debate. I ...

3d transition-metal oxide materials with strong electron correlations and low dimensionality give rise to emerging exotic phases. Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) has developed as a powerful spectroscopic tool for probing the collective excitatio ...

Two-dimensional Fourier transform spectroscopy is a promising technique to study ultrafast molecular dynamics. Similar to transient absorption spectroscopy, a more complete picture of the dynamics requires broadband laser pulses to observe transient change ...

Eye motion is a major confound for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in neuroscience or ophthalmology. Currently, solutions toward eye stabilisation include participants fixating or administration of paralytics/anaesthetics. We developed a novel MRI protoco ...

The Pt(ii) -diimine complexes [PtCl2{N-2-(HCNR)(2)}] (R = C6H11, 1; 4-C6H10OH, 2; 4-C6H4CH3, 3; 4-C6H4OH, 4) and [PtCl2{N-2-(CH3CNOH)(2)}] (5) were prepared in 60-81% yields from the 1:1 molar reactions of cis-[PtCl2(DMSO)(2)] with the appropriate -diimine ...

Trains of short pulses in the manner of `delays alternating with nutations for tailored excitation' (DANTE) have been applied to the Pake patterns of protons of water molecules trapped in a static powdered sample of barium chlorate monohydrate. The spin dy ...

The brain uses lactate produced by glycolysis as an energy source. How lactate originated from the blood stream is used to fuel brain metabolism is not clear. The current study measures brain metabolic fluxes and estimates the amount of pyruvate that becom ...

Background:Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a major risk factor for both perinatal and long-term morbidity. Bovine lactoferrin (bLf) is a major milk glycoprotein considered as a pleiotropic functional nutrient. The impact of maternal supplementati ...

Speed has always been a critical consideration in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), promising dramatic gains in imaging speed, a reduction in motion and susceptibility artifacts, and ultimately increased throughput for clinical studies. This thesis present ...

(Figure Presented) Chemical shifts of protons can report on metabolic transformations such as the conversion of choline to phosphocholine. To follow such processes in vivo, magnetization can be enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). We have hyperp ...

Long-lived spin states are excited in molecules featuring more than two isolated coupled spins, including amino acids. The figure shows the exponential recovery with the longest time-constant in aspartic acid, T1max=5.842±0.004 s, and of the decay of the l ...

In this work we present a method for the image analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of fetuses. Our goal is to segment the brain surface from multiple volumes (axial, coronal and sagittal acquisitions) of a fetus. To this end we propose a two-step ...

In the last two decades, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has evolved into one of the most powerful techniques in diagnostic clinical medicine and biomedical research. MRI is primarily used to produce anatomical images, but may also give information on the ...

The main aim of this work is to detect metabolites in the brain by means of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We were mostly interested by glutathione (GSH) and more particularly by its cysteine part which forms a strongly coupled ABX spins system. ...
