In this thesis, the magnetic and structural properties of layered epitaxial film systems and clusters are presented. A main achievement is the investigation of the direct correlation between magnetism and structural or morphological details of ultrathin fi ...

Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS) has become an important tool for measuring diffusion, concentration and molecular interactions in biomolecular systems. Two major requirements for FCS are good collection efficiency and a small and well defined e ...

The controlled tuning of the characteristic dimensions of two-dimensional arrays of block-copolymer reverse micelles deposited on silicon surfaces is demonstrated. The polymer used is polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (91500-b-105000 g mol–1). Revers ...

We have developed a new hybrid AFM probe combining an SU-8 polymer body with a full tungsten cantilever having a nanometric tip. The fabrication is based on surface micromachining a silicon wafer, where tungsten is sputter deposited in oxidation sharpened ...

Crawling motion is characteristic of most animal cells and is principally based on actin-myosin II cytoskeletal system. The major components and reactions contributing to motility have been identified, but the overall picture of how these molecular events ...

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate sensors and structures fabricated using the LTCC technology, which has been addressed and employed increasingly as a smart packaging approach for several applications. The focus will be on inclination and cantile ...

This dissertation addresses the adsorption of proteins in microchannels with the aim of improving the result of an immunoassay. To observe the adsorption of fluorescently labelled immunoglobulins G in laser ablated polymer microchannels, a confocal microsc ...

This thesis presents the first experimental results of a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) investigation of rubrene at the supramolecular, molecular and submolecular level. Based on its semiconducting and fluores ...

Much interest has been generated in the fabrication of colloidal crystals from suspensions because of the promise of photonic band gap applications. However, since the case of small, nonsedimenting colloidal particles indeed remains rather rarely treated, ...

A biocompatible interface was constructed on a microchip by using the layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly of charged polysaccharides incorporating proteases for highly efficient proteolysis. The controlled assembly of natural polyelectrolytes and the enzyme-adso ...

We present the development and first application of a novel dual-color total internal reflection (TIR) fluorescence system for single-molecule coincidence analysis and fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS). As a performance analysis, we measur ...

The concept of a field-effect transistor with ferroelectric gate has been implemented using the GaN/AlGaN heterostructure combined with Pb(Zr,Ti)O-3 ferroelectric layer. The processing conditions were optimized in a way to obtain textured Pb(Zr,Ti)O-3 film ...
