When the time comes to make a critical decision, it is of paramount importance to prepare enough so that all the information necessary is available at decision time. Under-preparation leads to uninformed decisions; over-preparation, however, may lead to co ...

Analytical workloads are evolving as the number of users surges and applications that submit queries in batches become popular. However, traditional analytical databases that optimize-then-execute each query individually struggle to provide timely response ...

Fully-Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) offers powerful capabilities by enabling secure offloading of both storage and computation, and recent innovations in schemes and implementations have made it all the more attractive. At the same time, FHE is notoriously ...

Today's continued increase in demand for processing power, despite the slowdown of Moore's law, has led to an increase in processor count, which has resulted in energy consumption and distribution problems. To address this, there is a growing trend toward ...

Scala has been developed as a language that deeply integrates with the Java ecosystem. It offers seamless interoperability with existing Java libraries. Since the Scala compiler targets Java bytecode, Scala programs have access to high-performance runtimes ...

Investigating the intangible nature of a cultural domain can take multiple forms, addressing for example the aesthetic, epistemic and social dimensions of its phenomenology. The context of Southern Chinese martial arts is of particular significance as it c ...

Dynamically scheduled high-level synthesis can exploit high levels of parallelism in poorly-predictable control-dominated applications. Yet, dataflow circuits are often generated by literal conversion of basic blocks into circuits interconnected in such a ...

Neural networks have become indispensable for a wide range of applications, but they suffer from high computational- and memory-requirements, requiring optimizations from the algorithmic description of the network to the hardware implementation. Moreover, ...

When a computational task tolerates a relaxation of its specification or when an algorithm tolerates the effects of noise in its execution, hardware, system software, and programming language compilers or their runtime systems can trade deviations from cor ...

Program synthesis was first proposed a few decades ago, but in the last decade it has gained increased momentum in the research community. The increasing complexity of software has dictated the urgent need for improved supporting tools that verify the soft ...

In this paper, we present a framework for generating optimizing compilers for performance-oriented embedded DSLs (EDSLs). This framework provides facilities to automatically generate the boilerplate code required for building DSL compilers on top of the ex ...

AIRSpec is a platform consisting of several chemometric packages developed for analysis of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra of atmospheric aerosols. The packages are accessible through a browser-based interface, which also generates the necessary ...

Program generation is indispensable. We propose a novel unification of two existing metaprogramming techniques: multi-stage programming and hygienic generative macros. The former supports runtime code generation and execution in a type-safe manner while th ...

Advances in experimental techniques and computational power allowing researchers to gather anatomical and electrophysiological data at unprecedented levels of detail have fostered the development of increasingly complex models in computational neuroscience ...

Programming languages are increasingly compiled to multiple runtimes, each featuring their own rich structures such as their object model. Furthermore, they need to interact with other languages targeting said runtimes. A language targeting only one runtim ...

When evaluating quantities of interest that depend on the solutions to differential equations, we inevitably face the trade-off between accuracy and efficiency. Especially for parametrized, time-dependent problems in engineering computations, it is often t ...
