Genome-wide chromatin conformation capture assays provide formidable insights into the spatial organization of genomes. However, due to the complexity of the data structure, their integration in multi-omics workflows remains challenging. We present data st ...

The official Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production mission aims to demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion with the STEP Prototype Power plant. One of the key technological and engineering challenges in fusion power plants is mana ...

Formally verifying the correctness of software is necessary to merit the trust people put in software systems. Currently, formal verification requires human effort to prove that a piece of code matches its specification and code changes to improve verifiab ...

To rank the performanceof materials for a given carbon captureprocess, we rely on pure component isotherms from which we predictthe mixture isotherms. For screening a large number of materials,we also increasingly rely on isotherms predicted from molecular ...

Today's continued increase in demand for processing power, despite the slowdown of Moore's law, has led to an increase in processor count, which has resulted in energy consumption and distribution problems. To address this, there is a growing trend toward ...

The aggravation of climate change calls for the timely development and implementation of highly efficient, renewable, zero- or negative-emission energy solutions with high technological readiness and feasibility levels. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) consti ...

The European Union (EU) recently ratcheted its climate ambition to net-zero emissions by 2050, with a milestone of 55% emissions cuts in 2030. This study carries out a model inter-comparison to assess the EU’s path, from “Fit for 55” in 2030 to an intermed ...

Biorefineries hold the potential to provide products and energy carriers at reduced environmental impact compared to their fossil-based counterparts. Thus, they can contribute to the decarbonization of sectors in which electrification of demands is challen ...

Calcium looping integrated with chemical looping combustion (CaL-CLC) process is an efficient and cost-effective CO2 capture technology. In this technique, the heat generated by chemical looping combustion of CuO is used insitu to calcine CaCO3, thus avoid ...

A shift from fossil-based energy and products to more sustainable alternatives is essential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and associated climate change impacts. Biomass represents a promising alternative for providing fuels and carbon-based products w ...

In this work, a systematic approach combining different energy solutions and the time-varying energy demands is used to identify the operating conditions and arrangements for industrial complexes. A kraft pulp mill integrated to an urban district heating n ...

Direct air capture using solid adsorbents is a proven technology critical to reducing our net greenhouse gas emissions to zero and beyond. Currently, academic research into the technology mainly focuses on the devel-opment of new adsorbents. However, there ...

In the framework of the XFLEX HYDRO H2020 European Project, the pumped-storage power plant of Grand'Maison (France), owned by Electricité De France, focuses on the implementation of the hydraulic short-circuit (HSC) operating mode. This mode increases the ...

The heat capacity of a material is a fundamental property of great practical importance. For example, in a carbon capture process, the heat required to regenerate a solid sorbent is directly related to the heat capacity of the material. However, for most m ...

The performance of programs executed on heterogeneous parallel platforms largely depends on the design choices regarding how to partition the processing on the various different processing units. In other words, it depends on the assumptions and parameters ...

Formally verifying the correctness of software network functions (NFs) is necessary for network reliability, yet existing techniques require full source code and mandate the use of specific data structures. We describe an automated technique to verify NF b ...

Code generation is an effective way to drive the complex system development in model-based systems engineering. Currently, different code generators are developed for different modeling languages to deal with the development of systems with multi-domain. T ...

Mg-Al mixed metal oxides (MMOs), derived from the decomposition of layered double hydroxides (LDHs), have been purposed as adsorbents for CO2 capture of industrial plant emissions. To aid in the design and optimization of these materials for CO2 capture at ...

As it has become easier and cheaper to collect big datasets in the last few decades, designing efficient and low-cost algorithms for these datasets has attracted unprecedented attention. However, in most applications, even storing datasets as acquired has ...

In the framework of the new Swiss feed-in-tariff system for Small Hydropower Plants (SHP), the aim of the SmallFLEX project, led by HES-SO Valais and performed in collaboration with EPFL, WSL, EAWAG, PVE and FMV, is to show how SHP can provide winter peak ...
