We provide new explicit examples of lattice sphere packings in dimensions 54, 55, 162, 163, 486 and 487 that are the densest known so far, using Kummer families of elliptic curves over global function fields. In some cases, these families of elliptic curve ...

In this thesis we consider the problem of estimating the correlation of Hecke eigenvalues of GL2 automorphic forms with a class of functions of algebraic origin defined over finite fields called trace functions. The class of trace functions is vast and inc ...

In materials, certain approximated symmetry operations can exist in a lower-order approximation of the effective model but are good enough to influence the physical responses of the system, and these approximated symmetries were recently dubbed "quasisymme ...

Nonlinear optical frequency conversion is of fundamental importance in photonics and underpins countless of its applications: Sum- and difference-frequency generation in media with quadratic nonlinearity permits reaching otherwise inaccessible wavelength r ...

The Dolev-Reischuk bound says that any deterministic Byzantine consensus protocol has (at least) quadratic (in the number of processes) communication complexity in the worst case: given a system with n processes and at most f < n/3 failures, any solution t ...

In this text, we will show the existence of lattice packings in a family of dimensions by employing division algebras. This construction is a generalization of Venkatesh's lattice packing result Venkatesh (Int Math Res Notices 2013(7): 1628-1642, 2013). In ...

Let k be a field, and let L be an etale k-algebra of finite rank. If a is an element of k(x), let X-a be the affine variety defined by N-L/k(x) = a. Assuming that L has at least one factor that is a cyclic field extension of k, we give a combinatorial desc ...

We study the elliptic curves given by y(2) = x(3) + bx + t(3n+1) over global function fields of characteristic 3 ; in particular we perform an explicit computation of the L-function by relating it to the zeta function of a certain superelliptic curve u(3) ...

With the increasing prevalence of massive datasets, it becomes important to design algorithmic techniques for dealing with scenarios where the input to be processed does not fit in the memory of a single machine. Many highly successful approaches have emer ...

Integrating functions on discrete domains into neural networks is key to developing their capability to reason about discrete objects. But, discrete domains are (I) not naturally amenable to gradient-based optimization, and (II) incompatible with deep lear ...

Let K be a totally real number field of degree n >= 2. The inverse different of K gives rise to a lattice in Rn. We prove that the space of Schwartz Fourier eigenfunctions on R-n which vanish on the "component-wise square root" of this lattice, is infinite ...

We prove that every Schwartz function in Euclidean space can be completely recovered given only its restrictions and the restrictions of its Fourier transform to all origin-centered spheres whose radii are square roots of integers. In particular, the only ...

We use birational geometry to show that the existence of rational points on proper rationally connected varieties over fields of characteristic 0 is a consequence of the existence of rational points on terminal Fano varieties. We discuss several consequenc ...

We establish p-adic versions of the Manin-Mumford conjecture, which states that an irreducible subvariety of an abelian variety with dense torsion has to be the translate of a subgroup by a torsion point. We do so in the context of certain rigid analytic s ...

Cut and spectral sparsification of graphs have numerous applications, including e.g. speeding up algorithms for cuts and Laplacian solvers. These powerful notions have recently been extended to hypergraphs, which are much richer and may offer new applicati ...

We prove an asymptotic formula for the second moment of a product of two Dirichlet L-functions on the critical line, which has a power saving in the error term and which is uniform with respect to the involved Dirichlet characters. As special cases we give ...

We revisit the statistical mechanics of charge fluctuations in capacitors. In constant-potential classical molecular simulations, the atomic charges of electrode atoms are treated as additional degrees of freedom which evolve in time so as to satisfy the c ...

Range-only localization has applications as diverse as underwater navigation, drone tracking and indoor localization. While the theoretical foundations of lateration---range-only localization for static points---are well understood, there is a lack of unde ...

It is proved that the continuous bounded cohomology of SL2(k) vanishes in all positive degrees whenever k is a non-Archimedean local field. This holds more generally for boundary-transitive groups of tree automorphisms and implies low degree vanishing for ...

In this paper we study the regularized Petersson product between a holomorphic theta series associated to a positive definite binary quadratic form and a weakly holomorphic weight-one modular form with integral Fourier coefficients. In [18], we proved that ...
