Conformal field theory lies at the heart of two central topics in theoretical high energy physics: the study of quantum gravity and the mapping of quantum field theories through the renormalization group. In this thesis we explore a technique to study conf ...

Effective Field Theories have changed our understanding of Quantum Field Theories. This thesis shows several applications of this powerful tool in the context of the Standard Model and for searches of New Physics. The thesis starts with a review of the St ...

We present a comprehensive discussion on lattice techniques for the simulation of scalar and gauge field dynamics in an expanding universe. After reviewing the continuum formulation of scalar and gauge field interactions in Minkowski and FLRW backgrounds, ...

We show how calculable IR loop effects impact positivity bounds in effective field theories with causal and unitary UV completions. We identify infrared singularities that appear in dispersion relations at |t| less than or similar to m(2). In the massless ...

We study unbinned multivariate analysis techniques, based on Statistical Learning, for indirect new physics searches at the LHC in the Effective Field Theory framework. We focus in particular on high-energy ZW production with fully leptonic decays, modeled ...

Quantum Field Theory(QFT) as one of the most promising frameworks to study high energy and condensed matter physics, has been mostly developed by perturbative methods. However, perturbative methods can only capture a small island of the space of QFTs. QFT ...

With the establishment and maturation of the experimental programs searching for new physics with sizeable couplings at the LHC, there is an increasing interest in the broader particle and astrophysics community for exploring the physics of light and feebl ...

We consider expected performances based on max-stable random fields and we are interested in their derivatives with respect to the spatial dependence parameters of those fields. Max-stable fields, such as the Brown-Resnick and Smith fields, are very popula ...

We present a relativistic effective field theory for the interaction between acoustic and gapped phonons in the limit of a small gap. We show that, while the former are the Goldstone modes associated with the spontaneous breaking of spacetime symmetries, t ...

Effective Field Theories (EFTs) allow a description of low energy effects of heavy new physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) in terms of higher dimensional operators among the SM fields. EFTs are not only an elegant and consistent way to describe heavy n ...

Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) are crucial for our understanding of Quantum Field Theory (QFT). Because of their powerful symmetry properties, they play the role of signposts in the space of QFTs. Any method that gives us information about their structure ...

In an open, bounded subset Omega of R-N such that 0 is an element of Omega we consider the nonlinear eigenvalue problem -Sigma(N)(i,j,=1) partial derivative(i){A(ij)(x)partial derivative(j)u} + V(x)u + n(x,del u)+ g(x, u) = lambda u in Omega integral(Omega ...

Gravitational waves, despite predicted within the Theory of General Relativity about a century ago, were observed experi-mentally only in the last few years, thanks to the recent advances of the LIGO and Virgo detectors. In this work, we introduce a simple ...

This thesis is concerned with gauge theories, their complicated vacuum and resulting effects. After an introduction to the subject, it is divided into four parts. Firstly, we treat the problem of chiral charge dynamics at finite temperature. Quantum field ...

We develop a novel 2D functional learning framework that employs a sparsity-promoting regularization based on second-order derivatives. Motivated by the nature of the regularizer, we restrict the search space to the span of piecewise-linear box splines shi ...

Binary dielectric metasurfaces are arrays of sub-wavelength structures that act as a thin layer of artificial material. They are generally lossless and relatively simple to fabricate since only a single structuring step is required. By carefully designing ...

First evidence of geometrical patterns and defined distances of biomolecules as fundamental parameters to regulate receptor binding and cell signaling have emerged recently. Here, we demonstrate the importance of controlled nanospacing of immunostimulatory ...

We consider a model of sub-GeV dark matter whose interaction with the Standard Model is mediated by a new vector boson (the dark photon) which couples kinetically to the photon. We describe the possibility of constraining such a model using a superfluid He ...

We propose a new formulation to the non-rigid structure-from-motion problem that only requires the deforming surface to meaning that its differential structure is preserved. This is a much weaker assumption than the traditional ones of isometry or conforma ...
