Résumé

A method of storing one or more bits of information comprising: forming a magnetic bubble; and storing a said bit of information encoded in a typology of a domain wall of said magnetic bubble. Preferably a bit is encoded using a symmetric topological state of the domain wall and a topological state including at least one winding rotation of a magnetisation vector of the domain wall. Preferably the magnetic bubble is confined in an island of magnetic material, preferably of maximum dimension less than 1 μm.

Magnetic storage

Magnetic storage or magnetic recording is the storage of data on a magnetized medium. Magnetic storage uses different patterns of magnetisation in a magnetizable material to store data and is a form of non-volatile memory. The information is accessed using one or more read/write heads. Magnetic storage media, primarily hard disks, are widely used to store computer data as well as audio and video signals. In the field of computing, the term magnetic storage is preferred and in the field of audio and video production, the term magnetic recording is more commonly used.

Magnetic domain

A magnetic domain is a region within a magnetic material in which the magnetization is in a uniform direction. This means that the individual magnetic moments of the atoms are aligned with one another and they point in the same direction. When cooled below a temperature called the Curie temperature, the magnetization of a piece of ferromagnetic material spontaneously divides into many small regions called magnetic domains. The magnetization within each domain points in a uniform direction, but the magnetization of different domains may point in different directions.

Bit

Le bit est l'unité la plus simple dans un système de numération, ne pouvant prendre que deux valeurs, désignées le plus souvent par les chiffres 0 et 1. Un bit peut représenter aussi bien une alternative logique, exprimée par faux et vrai, qu'un « chiffre binaire », binary digit en anglais, dont le mot bit, qui signifie « morceau », est aussi l'abréviation. Dans la théorie de l'information, un bit est la quantité minimale d'information transmise par un message, et constitue à ce titre l'unité de mesure de base de l'information en informatique.
