As the share of electricity generation from non-dispatchable sources like wind and photovoltaics grows, so does the need for demand response to stabilize the grid. Since the electricity consumption of heat pumps in buildings is both substantial and flexibl ...

This paper presents a physics-based analytical model for investigating charge trapping in GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs), using the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne HEMT core model. It introduces a realistic continuous density of in ...

Regular inspection and maintenance are crucial for ensuring the optimal performance of solar panels. However, conventional manual methods can be laborious, time consuming, and expensive, especially for large and inaccessible installations. Aerial inspectio ...

This thesis reports on the study and use of low temperature processes for the deposition of indium gallium nitride (InGaN) thin films in order to alleviate some of the present drawbacks of its monolitic deposition on silicon for photovoltaic applications. ...

The engineering design of the CFETR TF prototype coil and conductors has been completed. The wind-package (WP) of the coil is graded into three regions based on the magnetic field distribution for saving cost. High-Jc Nb3Sn strand, ITER-like Nb3Sn strand a ...

Heteroatom-doped polyaromatic hydrocarbons (or nanographenes) are promising molecular electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Here, we use density functional theory to investigate the first step of the ORR pathway (chemisorption) for a se ...

The use of a bulk heterojunction of organic semiconductors to drive photoelectrochemical water splitting is an emerging trend; however, the optimum energy levels of the donor and acceptor have not been established for photoanode operation with respect to e ...

Data-driven approaches based on high-throughput capabilities and machine learning hold promise in revolutionizing human-centred materials discovery for sustainability and decarbonization. This Review examines the strengths and limitations of different trad ...

Solar photovoltaic (PV) is the most rapidly expanding renewable resource worldwide. Yet, its full potential may be hindered by mismatches with market demand and correlated production profiles. In this research, we explore a case study of innovative PV plac ...

Devices based on two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors hold promise for the realization of compact and versatile on-chip interconnects between electrical and optical signals. Although light emitting diodes (LEDs) are fundamental building blocks for integrate ...

The semiconducting hybrid-organic inorganic halide perovskites have excellent optical and electronic properties that attract the interest of scientists and researchers. Perovskite solar cells have seen the most rising-rate in the chart of solar cell effici ...

Understanding defects is of paramount importance for the development of stable halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, isolating their distinctive effects on device efficiency and stability is currently a challenge. We report that adding the organic ...

Secondary photogeneration due to reabsorption of internally emitted photons in metal halide perovskites is assessed using a novel dipole emission model that is compatible with detailed balance rates. The model considers the non-uniform local photon density ...
