Providing adequate glare protection and a view to the outside through fabric shading devices is challenging because these two objectives require conflicting material properties for a fully lowered shading. In a semi -controlled office-like experiment invol ...

This paper investigates the structural response of laminated glass beams under combined fire-exposure and sustained in-plane loading. This is done by means of experimental testing and Finite Element (FE) numerical modelling. Firstly, small-scale (1 m long) ...

We performed the first large-scale investigation of indoor air quality (IAQ), energy and occupant behavior and satisfaction, in 650 energy-efficient dwellings in western Switzerland. The investigation included comparative assessment of 217 green-certified ...

This user-centered design research project aimed to investigate visual and interaction principles for augmented reality (AR) in the context of environmental and nutritional food labelling. Nutritional information on existing food labels is often misunderst ...

The group testing problem consists of determining a small set of defective items from a larger set of items based on a number of tests, and is relevant in applications such as medical testing, communication protocols, pattern matching, and more. In this pa ...

The ordering of communication channels was first introduced by Shannon. In this paper, we aim to find characterizations of two orderings: input-degradedness and the Shannon ordering. A channel W is said to be input-degraded from another channel W' if W can ...

Structural behaviour of timber folded surface systems greatly depends on the connections ability to transfer the occurring forces between the adjacent elements and finally to the supports. This paper focuses on multiple tab-and-slot joints (MTSJ), where di ...

This work addresses the design and the fabrication of small scale square planar coils with high density of turns and self inductances up to 170 µH. First, the modified Wheelers formula is used to determine the optimal number of turns in order to achieve th ...

The current Eurocode 8 belongs to one of the most advanced international seismic design codes. This leading edge should be maintained in future revisions of the code while the code should become as user friendly as possible. This article makes several prop ...

Code design of slab-column connections to resist seismically induced drifts is currently based on empirical relationships for both moment and deformation capacity. The results of tests on slabcolumn connections are however sensitive to the conception of th ...

Wireless sensor networks (WNSs) are gradually evolving from a promising technology to a well-established reality in a large set of different domains. In order to fulfill the requirements of the specific scenario, a WSN must provide the right tradeoffs betw ...
