Diffuse midline glioma (DMG) is a devastating pediatric brain tumor unresponsive to hundreds of clinical trials. Approximately 80% of DMGs harbor H3K27M oncohistones, which reprogram the epigenome to increase the metabolic profile of the tumor cells. We ha ...

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) has abundant mitochondria with the unique capability of generating heat via uncoupled respiration. Here, Park et al. identify LETMD1 as a mitochondrial matrix protein enriched in brown adipose tissue (BAT) and reveal a crucial ro ...

Glucose sensing in pancreatic D-cells depends on oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondria-derived signals that promote insulin secretion. Using mass spectrometry-based phosphoproteo-mics to search for downstream effectors of glucose-dependent signal tran ...

Protein kinases of the dystonia myotonica protein kinase (DMPK) family are critical regulators of actomyosin contractility in cells. The DMPK kinase MRCK1 is required for the activation of myosin, leading to the develop-ment of cortical tension, apical con ...

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most frequent and highly malignant form of brain cancer. New therapeutic regimens are urgently needed as GBM patients present with a minimal response to currently-approved therapies. The goal of this project is to identify new the ...

Background: Overexpression of the transsulfuration enzyme cystathionine-beta-synthase (CBS), and overproduction of its product, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are recognized as potential pathogenetic factors in Down syndrome (DS). The purpose of the study was to d ...

Crossover formation is essential for proper segregation of homologous chromosomes during meiosis. Here, we show that Caenorhabditis elegans cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK-2) partners with cyclin-like protein COSA-1 to promote crossover formation by promoti ...

The membrane-anchored Src tyrosine kinase is involved in numerous pathways and its deregulation is involved in human cancer. Our knowledge on Src regulation relies on crystallography, which revealed intramolecular interactions to control active Src conform ...

The treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) is an unmet medical need in absence of early diagnosis. Here, upon characterizing cancer-specific transposable element-driven transpochimeric gene transcripts (TcGTs) produced by this tumor in the SYSCOL cohort, we ...

All cells need to be able to sense their environment, and adapt their metabolism, growth and cell division appropriately. In this study, I examined the response of Schizosaccharomyces pombe to a change in the carbon source and how that affects cytokinesis. ...

Organohalide respiration (OHR) is a bacterial anaerobic process that use halogenated compounds, e.g. tetrachloroethene (PCE), as terminal electron acceptors. D. restrictus strain PER-K23, an obligate OHR bacterium (OHRB), and D. hafniense strain TCE1, a ba ...

Recent advances in protein-design methodology have led to a dramatic increase in reliability and scale. With these advances, dozens and even thousands of designed proteins are automatically generated and screened. Nevertheless, the success rate, particular ...

This work demonstrated that consolidated bioprocessing is a promising concept for conversion of lignocellulose to ethanol at industrial scale. CBP offers great cost saving potential, is feasible to be operated continuously and may be scaled up due to exten ...

PUS3 encodes the pseudouridylate synthase 3, an enzyme catalyzing the formation of tRNA pseudouridine, which plays a critical role in tRNA structure, function, and stability. Biallelic pathogenic variants of PUS3 have been previously associated with severe ...

Deficiency of the serine hydrolase prolyl endopeptidase-like (PREPL) causes a recessive metabolic disorder characterized by neonatal hypotonia, feeding difficulties, and growth hormone deficiency. The pathophysiology of PREPL deficiency and the physiologic ...

Depletion of mitochondrial copper, which shifts metabolism from respiration to glycolysis and reduces energy production, is known to be effective against cancer types that depend on oxidative phosphorylation. However, existing copper chelators are too toxi ...

Follicular lymphoma (FL) is an incurable form of B-cell lymphoma. Genomic alterations that inactivate RB signaling are surprisingly common in indolent FL. We show that FLs that are positive for phosphorylated RB respond to dual CDK4/BCL2 inhibition. Our re ...

Background The Canadian prairie ecosystem presents a rich source of natural products from plants that are subjected to herbivory by grazing mammals. This type of ecological competition may contribute to the production of natural products of interest in cel ...

Creatine is an organic compound used as fast phosphate energy buffer to recycle ATP, important in tissues with high energy demand such as muscle or brain. Creatine is taken from the diet or endogenously synthetized by the enzymes AGAT and GAMT, and specifi ...

Organohalides are a class of compounds often considered as persistent pollutants and harmful to environmental and human health. Some bacteria, among which are representatives from the Firmicutes phylum, are capable of using these compounds as terminal acce ...
