The constant urge to construct new molecules in an economical and sustainable fashion led to the development of numerous metal-catalyzed transformations. Organocatalysts consisting of abundant and more sustainable elements offer an elegant solution to over ...

Thorium nitrides are likely intermediates in the reported cleavage and functionalization of dinitrogen by molecular thorium complexes and are attractive compounds for the study of multiple bond formation in f-element chemistry, but only one example of thor ...

The activation of small molecules is a paramount challenge in modern chemistry. The use of cheap and abundant molecules such as N2, H2, CO2, or CO as energy supplies or as precursors for fine chemicals production is highly desirable. In particular, the onl ...

Multimetallic cooperativity is believed to play a key role in the cleavage of dinitrogen to nitrides (N3-), but the mechanism remains ambiguous due to the lack of isolated intermediates. Herein, we report the reduction of the complex [K-2{[U-V(OSi((OBu)-Bu ...

Knowledge of the oxidation state of metal centres in compounds and materials helps in the understanding of their chemical bonding and properties. Chemists have developed theories to predict oxidation states based on electron-counting rules, but these can f ...

a-Amino ketones and 1,2-amino alcohols are important structural motifs in organic chemistry, that can be observed in natural products, pharmaceutically and bioactive compounds. For these reasons, they constitute privileged targets for the development of ne ...

The development of new processes for the selective and sustainable transformation of abundant small molecules constitutes one of the major research areas in inorganic and organometallic chemistry. These molecules as CO2, CO, N2 and H2 are abundant reservoi ...

Uranium nitride complexes are of high interest because of their ability to effect dinitrogen reduction and functionalization and to promote magnetic communication, but studies of their properties and reactivity remain rare. Here we have prepared in 73% yie ...

Molecular uranium nitride complexes were prepared to relate their small molecule reactivity to the nature of the U & xe001;N & xe001;U bonding imposed by the supporting ligand. The U4+-U4+ nitride complexes, [NBu4][{(((BuO)-Bu-t)(3)SiO)(3)U}(2)(mu-N)], [NB ...

Silicon nitride has emerged as a prominent platform for building photonics integrated circuits. While its nonlinear properties based on third-order effects have been successfully exploited, an efficient second harmonic generation in standard stoichiometric ...

N2 is a cheap and widely available but very unreactive molecule. Notably, the only industrial process for the conversion of dinitrogen is the Haber-Bosch process to form ammonia, but under very harsh conditions (high temperature and pressure). Here, we rev ...

Molecular nitrogen (N-2) is cheap and widely available, but its unreactive nature is a challenge when attempting to functionalize it under mild conditions with other widely available substrates (such as carbon monoxide, CO) to produce value-added compounds ...

The main aim of this dissertation is to study the catalytic aspects of very small transition metal clusters supported on h-BN/Rh(111). The catalytic reactions of interest were ammonia synthesis and CO oxidation on mass selected and soft landed iron and pla ...

Vicinal amino alcohols and diamines are privileged motifs in organic chemistry. As such, they have been targets of choice for exploring and developing novel and more efficient strategies in organic synthesis. In this context, the difunctionalization of ole ...

The reduction of the nitride-bridged diuranium(IV) complex Cs[{U(OSi((OBu)-Bu-t)(3))(3)}(2)(mu-N)] affords the first example of a uranium nitride complex containing uranium in the +III oxidation state. Two nitride-bridged complexes containing the heteromet ...

Uranium nitrides are important materials with potential for application as fuels for nuclear power generation, and as highly active catalysts. Molecular nitride compounds could provide important insight into the nature of the uranium–nitride bond, but curr ...

This thesis comprises the study of two types of 2D materials, those stabilized by non-covalent and those by covalent interactions. They are synthesized and studied on well-defined metallic surfaces in ultra-high vacuum (UHV). The self-assembly of terephtha ...

Catalyst design for selective hydrogenations is of major importance for the manufacturing of fine chemicals. Catalytic procedure which uses scarce and expensive noble metals is very challenging in terms of exclusive attack of a single functionality or subs ...

Selective cleavages of carbon-carbon bonds catalyzed by transition-metal complexes have been shown to be increasingly versatile tools for organic synthesis allowing for complementary synthetic strategies. Numerous examples of transition-metal catalyzed C-C ...

Tetrahydrofurans and pyrrolidines are among the most important heterocycles found in bioactive compounds. Cyclization-functionalization domino reactions of alcohols or amines onto olefins, constitute one of the most efficient methods to access them. In this ...
