Consumers are key actors for the energy transition since they adopt technologies which impact the instantaneous balance between electricity supply and demand. Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels adopters are interested in achieving energy self-sufficiency throu ...

The increasing power density of SiC power modules presents significant challenges in achieving uniform high-heat-flux thermal management, which is often limited by conventional packages. To address this, an embedded microfluidic-cooled SiC power module is ...

CO2-mediated liquid H2 storage is a promising technology; however, it typically requires additives such as bases, which increase both cost and energy consumption. Herein, a bimetallic Ru complex is fabricated that catalyzes reversible cycles of CO2 hydroge ...

To flexibly consume variable renewable energy (VRE), the pumped storage units are facing severe issues induced by regulation duties (e.g., tear, fatigue, vibrations, etc.). This work aims to assess the regulation intensity of the pumped storage unit (RIPSU ...

Electron transport layers (ETLs) used as components of photocathodes for light-driven CO2 reduction (CO2R) in aqueous media should have good electronic transport, be stable under CO2R conditions, and, ideally, be catalytically inert for the competing hydro ...

The storage of renewable energy is crucial for the substitution of fossil fuels with renewable energy. Hydrogen is the first step in the conversion of electricity from renewable sources to an energy carrier. However, hydrogen is technically and economicall ...

The incremental deployment of decentralized renewable energy sources in the distribution grid is triggering a paradigm change for the power sector. This shift from a centralized structure with big power plants to a decentralized scenario of distributed ene ...

Pool boiling has a high heat removal capability and is considered as one of the most effective cooling methods due to utilization of latent heat of vaporization. Surface wettability plays a key role in boiling heat transfer since it controls the contact li ...

An investigation was conducted to systematically explore the relationships among microstructure evolution, continuous cooling transformation kinetics, and mechanical properties development in a low-carbon reheated weld metal (0.052C-1.5Mn-0.3Si-0.7Cr-0.8Mo ...

A simulation tool (EcoSim) has been developed to analyse the economic and environmental aspects of the integration of several energy conversion units. For a given investment over 25 years, the tool calculates the self-consumption rate, the autonomy level, ...

The optimisation of distributed and renewable energy systems in buildings has shown that zero energy systems, using existing technologies, is within reach in the household sector where the thermal and the systems can support each other to increase renewabl ...

The present study focused on the thermal hydraulic performance improvement of a CO2 gas cooler with the principal goal of reducing its volume, and consequently the necessary charge of the working fluid. To achieve this compactness, the leading methods for ...

A significant amount of energy in the buildings can be saved by inducing efficient occupant behavior. The occupant's awareness tools that have been shown to be effective in achieving energy efficiency gains depend on various computational and estimation al ...

Biomass is the major source of renewable carbon which can be used to substitute fossil carbon in fuels and chemical products. This thesis addresses the modelling, design and thermoeconomic evaluation and optimisation of processes converting Biomass to Liqu ...
