This work studies the power density (PD) optimization in wind farms, and its sensitivity to the available area size. A novel genetic algorithm (PDGA) is introduced, which optimizes PD and the turbine layout, by self-adapting to the PD and to the solutions ...

Low-carbon societies will need to store vast amounts of electricity to balance intermittent generation from wind and solar energy, for example, through frequency regulation. Here, we derive an analytical solution to the decision-making problem of storage o ...

Tungsten oxide-based materials have unique and intriguing properties as photoanode materials for solar energy conversion. The first part of the thesis focuses on the use of WO3 photoanodes for the oxidation of 5-(hydroxymethyl)furfural (HMF). Chapter one l ...

It is hard to overestimate the role of winter roads in the land logistics of the northern regions. In recent years, climate change has not only significantly reduced the service life of winter roads, but also made them less predictable. This forces transpo ...

Inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) promise enhanced operating stability compared to their normal-structure counterparts. To improve efficiency further, it is crucial to combine effective light management with low interfacial losses. Here we develop a c ...

Photo-electrochemical production of solar fuels from carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight is an appealing approach. Nevertheless, it remains challenging to scale despite encouraging demonstrations at low power input. Higher current densities require notable ...

High-temperature electrolysis for reducing H2O (and CO2) to H2 (and CO) converts concentrated solar energy into fuels and chemical feedstock. We invented an integrated reactor concept comprising a solar cavity receiver for reactant heating, a solid oxide e ...

Earth has always been in perpetual evolution, but today we must face its rapid change due to human activity. The intensification of industrial activities and transportation to support our modern lifestyles are the main causes of climate change and the adve ...

Solar powered redox cells (SPRCs) are promising for large-scale and long-term storage of solar-energy, particularly when coupled with redox flow batteries (RFBs). While efforts have primarily focused on heterostructure engineering, the potential of synergi ...
