The need of full transposition of the current carrying elements (strands) in large cables is frequently retained as top design criterion for conductors operating in pulsed mode. However, when the transposition error, i.e., the inductance difference among t ...

In online single-sided partial discharge (PD) location, the measured PD reflection patterns are affected by the characteristics of all the components of the associated power network. This paper analyses the performance of a PD location method based on elec ...

In this chapter, we discussed the TL theory and its application to the problem of lightning electromagnetic field coupling to transmission lines. After a short discussion on the underlying assumptions of the TL theory, we described seemingly different but ...

A closed time-reversal (TR) cavity has been considered a purely theoretical concept whose experimental realization was assumed to be impossible. In this article, we demonstrate that it is, in fact, possible to realize a closed TR cavity using a network of ...

The paper presents a method to identify the location of direct lightning strikes to overhead transmission lines and potential subsequent flashover(s). The method is based on the electromagnetic time reversal theory and relies on the use of a single measure ...

State-of-the-art magnets of fusion devices, which are based on low temperature superconductors (LTS), have almost reached their technological limits in terms of generated magnetic fields. Further progress can be made using novel high temperature supercondu ...

The progress of high power electromagnetic (HPEM) sources during the late 1990s raised the concern in the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) community that they could be deployed for criminal purposes to interfere with the operation of modern electronic s ...

This paper reports the results of two experimental campaigns aimed at studying the high-frequency response of a raceway containing low voltage power, telephone, and Ethernet cables, to external electromagnetic field illumination. The raceway was tested aga ...

Atwisted stack of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes soldered into copper profiles was used as a strand in the fabrication of the 60-kA/ 12-T HTS cable prototype at the Center for Research in Plasma Physics (CRPP). Considering the strand in gener ...

In this paper, we present general considerations for the application of the multiconductor transmission-line theory for simulating shielded spacecraft harness cable assemblies. Some of the practical issues that occur in the modeling process of various comp ...

The performance of tour Nb3Sn conductors for the ITER central solenoids was tested. The current sharing temperatures (T-cs) were measured over approximately 9000 electromagnetic cycles, including two or three thermal cycles between 4.2 K and room temperatu ...

In the assumption that DEMO will be an inductively driven tokamak, the number of load cycles will be in the range of several hundred thousands. The requirements for a new generation of Nb3Sn based high current conductors for DEMO are drafted starting from ...

Wakes and impedances of single accelerator elements can be obtained by means of theoretical calculation, electromagnetic (EM) simulations or bench measurements. Since theoretical calculations apply only to simple structures and bench measurements have some ...

Various techniques have been proposed in order to assemble coated conductor tapes into high current strands. In this work, the preparation of high current capacity round strands starting from industrial coated conductors has been investigated. Round, twist ...

The brittleness of the MgB2 wires prevents performing a cable architecture with very small bending radius, similar to NbTi Rutherford cables. Consequently, it is important to reduce the thickness of the superconducting materials in order to increase its be ...

A conductor for ITER toroidal field (TF) coils is the cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) type, which is made of Nb3Sn superconducting strands encased in a stainless steel tubular jacket. A 120-m-long prototype has been designed in accordance with ITER requi ...

The Republic of Korea is participating in the ITER project to construct and operate the ITER tokamak for the purpose of demonstrating the feasibility of fusion power. ITER Korea, the implementing agency for the Republic of Korea that is procuring items for ...

The cascaded transmission line theory of Paul and McKnight is used in this paper to predict near-end crosstalk (NEXT) and far-end crosstalk (FEXT) in a bundle of twisted wire pairs. The approach is validated using the CST Cable Studio commercial software a ...

The aim of this paper is to present an experimental validation of a frequency- domain approach to the solution of the lightning electromagnetic field-to- buried cable coupling equations. The coupling to the inner conductor is evaluated using the concept of ...

We present a review of theoretical methods to compute lightning-induced currents and voltages on buried cables. The evaluation of such induced disturbances requires the calculation of the electric field produced by lightning along the cable path. We show t ...
