This work introduces a new methodology to predict the fatigue life of viscoelastic materials by considering the creep effect on fatigue behavior under the concurrent effects of stress level, stress ratio, and temperature. The model established based on the ...

Geothermal projects utilizing supercritical water (≥400 °C) could boost power output tenfold compared to conventional plants. However, these reservoirs commonly occur in crustal areas where rocks are semi-ductile or ductile, impeding large-scale fractures ...

The strain rate (epsilon ) and temperature ( T ) dependent mechanical response of single crystal magnesium (Mg) micropillars compressed along the [ 2 over line 110 ] direction ( a-axis) is investigated from room temperature to 573 K and from 10-3 to 100 s- ...

Water presence causes a dramatic reduction of sandstone strength. Under compressive stress conditions, the strength of a rock sample is controlled by frictional parameters and the fracture toughness of the material. Here, we report fracture toughness, fric ...

The demand for metal alloys with superior structural performance in industrial applications continues to increase, as does the need for more-energy efficient materials and methods. Many materials that are otherwise attractive for structural applications ar ...

The grain boundary network of nanocrystalline Cu foils was modified by the application of cyclic loadings and elevated temperatures. Broadly, the changes to the boundary network were directly correlated with the applied temperature and accumulated strain, ...

Objective: To perform a mechanical characterization of a self-setting calcium phosphate cement in function of the immersion time in Ringer solution. Materials and methods: Specimens of self-setting calcium phosphate cement were prepared from pure alpha-TCP ...

Steel columns in frame buildings subjected to earthquake shaking undergo bidirectional lateral drift demands. Till now, the majority of past experimental and numerical studies were primarily concerned with the unidirectional column behavior. This paper pro ...

The increasing demand for housing in Colombia and several neighboring countries, together with the large relative cost of the materials, has prompted city administrations to build thin reinforced concrete (RC) wall buildings with a single layer of reinforc ...

Connections between structural glass components represent one of the main critical aspects of glass engineering. In the last years, a novel typology of adhesive connections has emerged, known as laminated adhesive connections. Two adhesive materials for la ...

The behaviour of the pile-soil interface is important for the response of floating piles in terms of displacement and lateral friction. Regarding energy piles, which couple the structural roles of deep foundations with the principle of shallow geothermal e ...

The application on existing Reinforced Concrete (RC) slabs of cast-on site Ultra-High Performance Fiber Reinforced cement-based Composite UHPFRC) layers is a very efficient reinforcement technique, currently spreading. For the design of these tensile reinf ...

During the last decade, a number of hysteretic models have been developed to simulate complex deteriorating mechanisms observed in steel components such that earthquake-induced collapse risk can be reliably assessed. Such models are typically calibrated wi ...

Different Au-Ag-Cu samples have been studied by mechanical spectroscopy. Both polycrystals and bi-crystals show a relaxation peak at 800 K, accompanied by an elastic modulus change. Since this peak is absent in single crystals it is related to the presence ...

Streamflow variability is a major determinant of basin-scale distributions of benthic invertebrates. Here we present a novel procedure based on a probabilistic approach aiming at a spatially explicit quantitative assessment of benthic invertebrate abundanc ...
