Metasurfaces are efficient and versatile electromagnetic structures that have already enabled the implementation of a wide range of microwave and photonic wave shaping applications. Despite the extensive research into metasurfaces, a rigorous and comprehen ...

Metasurfaces, planar arrays of subwavelength resonators, have emerged as powerful tools for versatile light manipulation in compact formats across different spectral ranges. Among these, the mid-infrared (mid-IR) is uniquely characterized by its interactio ...

A dual-shot technique based on the field basis addition of two statistically independent speckle patterns is developed to recover an input polarization through a scattering layer. It is proposed theoretically, and demonstrated both numerically and experime ...

Interferometric scattering (iSCAT) microscopy enables the label-free observation of biomolecules. Consequently, single-particle imaging and tracking with the iSCAT-based method known as mass photometry (MP) is a growing area of study. However, establishing ...

In this thesis, we discuss the problems of scattering and optical manipulation related to nanosystems of different complexities. The multipolar decomposition method is used to represent scattering processes in nanosystems as a series of elementary excitati ...

Low-temperature variable-energy electron irradiation was used to induce non-magnetic disorder in a single crystal of a hole-doped iron-based superconductor, Ba1-xKxFe2As2, x = 0.80. To avoid systematic errors, the beam energy was adjusted non-consequently ...

Scattering wave systems that are periodically modulated in time offer many new degrees of freedom to control waves in both the spatial and frequency domains. Such systems, albeit linear, do not conserve frequency and require the adaptation of the usual the ...

Over the past century, our understanding of life has been focused on its most fundamental building blocks: molecules. Biological molecules, such as proteins found in blood, other body fluids, or tissues, are excellent guides to identifying a normal or abno ...

There are various possibilities to realize coil winding designs for an inductive power transfer system. In order to achieve high power transfer efficiency and power density and explore trade-offs between the two, design optimization around the coil link is ...

Computing light reflection from rough surfaces is an important topic in computer graphics. Reflection models developed based on geometric optics fail to capture wave effects such as diffraction and interference, while existing models based on physical opti ...

Several recent publications show that the electromagnetic radiation generated by transmitting antennas satisfy the following universal conditions: The time domain radiation fields satisfy the condition A ≥ h/4π ⇒ q ≥ e where A is the action of the radiatio ...

An exact analytical expression for the electric field of the return stroke as excited by a propagating step current source is derived in this paper. This expression could be advantageously used to evaluate the disturbances caused by lightning on overhead l ...

We propose a framework that connects the spatial symmetries of a metasurface to its material parameter tensors and its scattering matrix. This provides a simple and universal way to effortlessly determine the properties of a metasurface scattering response ...

Lightning discharges, including cloud-to-ground (CG) and intracloud (IC) lightning, are known to emit electromagnetic pulses (EMPs) in a wide frequency band ranging from few Hz up to hundreds MHz [1]. During the breakdown and ionization processes (mostly f ...

Neutral Beam Injectors (NBI) for post-DEMO-like reactors must achieve a neutralization efficiency (fraction neutrals/ions) above 70%. To reach this, NBIs based on negative ions are necessary and an innovative concept of this type of injector is based on ph ...

The thesis covers the series of questions regarding the molecular structure and charge of oil nanodroplets in water. This work proposes a mechanism responsible for the stabilization of oil nanodroplets in water, which does not involve OH- adsorption. First ...

Plasmonic effects including near-field coupling, light scattering, guided mode through surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), Forster resonant energy transfer (FRET), and thermoplasmonics are extensively used for harnessing inexhaustible solar energy for photo ...

We give a broad overview of the historical development and physics of Brillouin scattering. We discuss the seminal papers of Brillouin and Mandelstam and give the historical context of their research. We discuss the development of experiments and observati ...

Soft Magnetic Composites (SMC) are an alternative to laminated steels for the design of smaller and lighter electromagnetic devices.Such electromagnetic devices might be subjected to significant mechanical stresses that can alter their electromagnetic prop ...

In this chapter, we discussed the TL theory and its application to the problem of lightning electromagnetic field coupling to transmission lines. After a short discussion on the underlying assumptions of the TL theory, we described seemingly different but ...
