The cross-sections of exclusive (coherent) photoproduction J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons in ultra-peripheral PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02TeV are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 228 ± 10 ...

We report neutron scattering measurements on YbMnSb2 which shed light on the nature of the magnetic moments and their interaction with Dirac fermions. Using half-polarized neutron diffraction we measured the field-induced magnetization distribution in the ...

Transition-metal compounds pose serious challenges to first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT), due to the inability of most approximate exchange-correlation functionals to capture the localization of valence electrons on thei ...

The potential of the hybrid scenario (first developed as an advanced inductive scenario for high fluence) as a regime for high-beta, steady-state plasmas is demonstrated on the DIII-D tokamak. These experiments show that the beneficial characteristics of h ...

We study quantum field theory on a de Sitter spacetime dS(d+1) background. Our main tool is the Hilbert space decomposition in irreducible unitary representations of its isometry group SO(d + 1, 1). As the first application of the Hilbert space formalism, ...

After the second Deuterium-Tritium Campaign (DTE2) in the JET tokamak with the ITER-Like Wall (ILW) and full tritium campaigns that preceded and followed after the DTE2, a sequence of fuel recovery methods was applied to promote tritium removal from wall c ...

The MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center and collaborators are proposing a high-performance Advanced Divertor and RF tokamak eXperiment (ADX)-a tokamak specifically designed to address critical gaps in the world fusion research programme on the pathway to ...

The achievable efficiency for external current drive through electron-cyclotron waves in a demonstration tokamak reactor is investigated. Two possible reactor designs, one for steady state and one for pulsed operation, are considered. Beam propagation, abs ...

Low-temperature variable-energy electron irradiation was used to induce non-magnetic disorder in a single crystal of a hole-doped iron-based superconductor, Ba1-xKxFe2As2, x = 0.80. To avoid systematic errors, the beam energy was adjusted non-consequently ...

Magnetically responsive soft materials are promising building blocks for the next generation of soft robotics, prosthesis, surgical tools, and smart textiles. To date, however, the fabrication of highly integrated magnetic fibers with extreme aspect ratios ...

Application of lower hybrid range of frequencies (LHRF) waves can induce both co- and counter-current directed changes in toroidal rotation in Alcator C-Mod plasmas, depending on the target plasma current, electron density, confinement regime and magnetic ...

A detailed MCNP neutronics model of the building housing the TCV tokamak has been developed. Predicted dose rates have been compared to neutron dose measurements at 12 locations in the building obtained during neutral beam injection into TCV plasmas. This ...

We propose a novel tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) concept called the electron–hole bilayer TFET (EHBTFET). This device exploits the carrier tunneling through a bias-induced electron–hole bilayer in order to achieve improved switching and higher driv ...

Numerical modelling of the effects of ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) on the stability of the internal kink mode suggests that ICRH should be considered as an essential sawtooth control tool in ITER. Sawtooth control using ICRH is achieved by direct ...

Free-electron lasers and high-harmonic-generation table-top systems are new sources of extreme-ultraviolet to hard X-ray photons, providing ultrashort pulses that are intense, coherent and tunable. They are enabling a broad range of nonlinear optical and s ...

Neutral Beam Injectors (NBI) for post-DEMO-like reactors must achieve a neutralization efficiency (fraction neutrals/ions) above 70%. To reach this, NBIs based on negative ions are necessary and an innovative concept of this type of injector is based on ph ...

We propose a novel Tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) concept called the electron-hole bilayer TFET (EHBTFET). This device exploits the carrier tunneling through a bias-induced electron-hole bilayer in order to achieve improved switching and higher driv ...

Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) has been lauded as a promising solar absorber material due to its functional properties and the abundance of zinc and phosphorous. In the last 4 decades, there has not been any significant improvement in the efficiencies of Zn3P2-bas ...

Synchrotron radiation is now a gigantic worldwide enterprise involving tens of thousands of researchers. Quite famous in this field are the landmark accomplishments of illuminated pioneers like Dave Shirley. Somewhat less known, however, are the historical ...

Electron internal transport barriers (eITBs) are obtained in TCV with different heating and current drive schemes. They are sustained in steady-state conditions for several energy confinement and current redistribution times. In these scenarios, the densit ...
