The idea that human needs should be secured for all people is largely uncontroversial, and recent research demonstrates that decent living standards could be secured for all, globally, with far lower energy and resource use than today. However, how the ene ...

The relentless rise of the global atmospheric carbon dioxide levels emphasizes the need for novel and innovative approaches to carbon sequestration strategies. This paper highlights how natural carbon dioxide removal methods can integrate with novel roboti ...

Although diets influence health and the environment, measuring and changing nutrition is challenging. Traditional measurement methods face challenges, and designing and conducting behavior-changing interventions is conceptually and logistically complicated ...

The primary aspiration of this paper is to learn about the effects of economic growth, energy consumption, agriculture and irrigation water consumption and agriculture productivity on environmental pollution in five countries of Central Asia. The data cove ...

In this paper, we propose setting up a fund to finance the removal of all Swiss territorial GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions from 2030. The fund will accelerate decarbonization and help reach annual net zero emissions around 2040, and then progressively remo ...

The flux of terrestrial carbon across land-water boundaries influences the overall carbon balance of landscapes and the ecology and biogeochemistry of aquatic ecosystems. The local consequences and broader fate of carbon delivered to streams is determined ...

The energy industry is going through challenging times of disruptive changes caused by decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization. As the energy value chain is restructuring itself to accommodate the growing penetration of renewables, increasing ...

During construction, a large number of resources are consumed; concurrently, a large amount of greenhouse gas is emitted, which contributes to air pollution. There exist close interactions among construction regions. This study examined the main economy-re ...

Emissions of ozone precursors have been regulated in Europe since around 1990 with air quality control measures, which resulted in reductions of nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds concentrations. In order to understand how these measures have a ...

Increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) in agroecosystems is necessary to mitigate climate change and soil degradation. Management practices designed to reach this goal call for a deeper understanding of the processes and drivers of soil carbon input stabiliz ...

To understand the urban environment from a meteorological perspective in order to design better and more sustainable neighbourhoods, an open-source and low-cost meteorological device was developed and tested at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne ...

The world is becoming increasingly urbanized. Municipal, metropolitan, regional and national governments, companies, international organizations, financiers, technology developers and civil society across the globe are faced with increasingly complex probl ...

Within the global challenge of sustainable energy supply and greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the deployment of renewable resources are considered as promising solutions. In this context, the production of ammonia m ...

The availability of about 18 million hectares of grassland in Para State, Brazil, and the possibility of increasing the livestock density display a good perspective for the oil palm expansion in pasture land. A life cycle assessment is performed for a pros ...

Worldwide, almost 50,000 dams over 15 m height have been built during the last six decades with an aggregated storage capacity of 6,000 km3. The fact that large dams, by increasing irrigation and hydroelectricity production, can sustain development and red ...

In the perspective of a sustainable energy economy, CO2 reduction is attracting increasing attention as a key Step toward the synthesis of fuels and valuable chemicals. A possible strategy to develop novel conversion catalysts consists in mimicking reactio ...
