Unmyelinated fibers account for a remarkable fraction of the peripheral nervous system and their activity is linked to many autonomic and somatic functions. While electrical recording of such activity from human-sized peripheral nerves holds significant po ...

Small-animal diffusion MRI (dMRI) has been used for methodological development and validation, characterizing the biological basis of diffusion phenomena, and comparative anatomy. The steps from animal setup and monitoring, to acquisition, analysis, and in ...

We address the problem of minimizing the area of circuits mapped to a technology library, with or without delay constraints. While traditional methods optimize first a technology-independent representation and then perform technology mapping to a library, ...

Background Each year, five million people are left disabled after stroke. Upper -extremity (UE) dysfunction is a leading problem. Neuroplasticity can be enhanced by non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) but evidence from large, randomized multicenter trial ...

Understanding cognitive processes in the brain demands sophisticated models capable of replicating neural dynamics at large scales. We present a physiologically inspired speech recognition architecture, compatible and scalable with deep learning frameworks ...

Proprioception tells the brain the state of the body based on distributed sensors in the body. However, the principles that govern proprioceptive processing from those distributed sensors are poorly understood. Here, we employ a task-driven neural network ...

Wireless, miniaturised and distributed neural interfaces are emerging neurotechnologies. Although extensive research efforts contribute to their technological advancement, the need for real-time systems enabling simultaneous wireless information and power ...

-penalty term to control the sparsity of the portfolio. We analyze the structure of local and global minimizers and use our results in the design of a Branch-and-Bo ...

Federated Learning (FL) has gained considerable attention recently, as it allows clients to cooperatively train a global machine learning model without sharing raw data. However, its performance can be compromised due to the high heterogeneity in clients' ...

This thesis reports high energy-density electrostatic actuators for use in soft robotics. This thesis has two main parts: a) a detailed study of electro-adhesion using microfabricated electrodes, and b) a flexi-ble fiber-shaped linear motor. Electro-adhesi ...

The Gm/ID approach has proven to be an efficient technique for the design of low-power analog circuits even in advanced technology nodes. It has already been shown that the normalized Gm/ID is actually a universal figure-of-merit (FoM) that is independent ...

Objective. Temporal resolution is a key challenge in artificial vision. Several prosthetic approaches are limited by the perceptual fading of evoked phosphenes upon repeated stimulation from the same electrode. Therefore, implanted patients are forced to p ...
