In Deep Neural Network (DNN) i-vector based speaker recognition systems, acoustic models trained for Automatic Speech Recognition are employed to estimate sufficient statistics for i-vector modeling. The DNN based acoustic model is typically trained on a w ...

Voice communication is the main channel to exchange information between pilots and Air-Traffic Controllers (ATCos). Recently, several projects have explored the employment of speech recognition technology to automatically extract spoken key information suc ...

Air traffic management and specifically air-traffic control (ATC) rely mostly on voice communications between Air Traffic Controllers (ATCos) and pilots. In most cases, these voice communications follow a well-defined grammar that could be leveraged in Aut ...

Over these last few years, the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), now often referred to as deep learning or Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), has significantly reshaped research and development in a variety of signal and information processing tasks. Whi ...

The goal of this thesis is to improve current state-of-the-art techniques in speaker verification (SV), typically based on â identity-vectorsâ (i-vectors) and deep neural network (DNN), by exploiting diverse (phonetic) information extracted using variou ...

This article addresses the problem of simultaneous distributed state estimation, and control of linear systems with linear state feedback, subjected to process, and measurement noise, under the constraints of quantized, and rate-limited network data transm ...

We propose a novel unsupervised deep-learning-based algorithm for dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reconstruction. Dynamic MRI requires rapid data acquisition for the study of moving organs such as the heart. We introduce a generalized version of t ...

Second-order pooling, a.k.a. bilinear pooling, has proven effective for deep learning based visual recognition. However, the resulting second-order networks yield a final representation that is orders of magnitude larger than that of standard, first-order ...

This paper presents a raw-waveform neural network and uses it along with a denoising network for clustering in weakly supervised learning scenarios under extreme noise conditions. Specifically, we consider language independent Automatic Gender Recognition ...

The production of hydrogen fuels, via water splitting, is of practical relevance for meeting global energy needs and mitigating the environmental consequences of fossil-fuel-based transportation. Water photoelectrolysis has been proposed as a viable approa ...

This article develops a fully decentralized multiagent algorithm for policy evaluation. The proposed scheme can be applied to two distinct scenarios. In the first scenario, a collection of agents have distinct datasets gathered by following different behav ...

Speaker recognition systems are playing a key role in modern online applications. Though the susceptibility of these systems to discrimination according to group fairness metrics has been recently studied, their assessment has been mainly focused on the di ...

In the last decade, i-vector and Joint Factor Analysis (JFA) approaches to speaker modeling have become ubiquitous in the area of automatic speaker recognition. Both of these techniques involve the computation of posterior probabilities, using either Gauss ...

We demonstrate multiple silicon-nitride nanophotonic elements for on-chip processing of octave-spanning microresonator frequency combs. Dichroic filters, multimode interferometers, and tunable add-drop microring filters are shown along with soliton microco ...

Automatic visual speech recognition is an interesting problem in pattern recognition especially when audio data is noisy or not readily available. It is also a very challenging task mainly because of the lower amount of information in the visual articulati ...

Safety assessments of road bridges to braking events combine the braking force, acting along the longitudinal axis of the deck, with a vertical load that accounts for the vertical component of the traffic action. In modern design standards the vertical loa ...

Advances in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) over the last decade opened new areas of speech-based automation such as in Air-Traffic Control (ATC) environments. Currently, voice communication and Controller Pilot Data Link Communications are the only way ...

The i-vector and Joint Factor Analysis (JFA) systems for text- dependent speaker verification use sufficient statistics computed from a speech utterance to estimate speaker models. These statis- tics average the acoustic information over the utterance ther ...

Condom evidence can be analysed using several analytical techniques, such as FTIR, MALDI-MS or DART-TOF-MS, but the only one that was used on real samples for transfer and persistence studies in the context of sexual assault or rape cases was Py-GC/MS. How ...

This paper presents a device matching study of a commercial 40-nm bulk CMOS technology operated at cryogenic temperatures. Transistor pairs and linear arrays, optimized for device matching, were characterized over the temperature range from 300 K down to 4 ...
