Whereas pulse-echo ultrasound imaging relied on focused acoustic waves since its inception, the last two decades have seen the development of techniques based on unfocused waves, including ultrafast ultrasound imaging. In large part due to the emergence of ...

Photometric stereo, a computer vision technique for estimating the 3D shape of objects through images captured under varying illumination conditions, has been a topic of research for nearly four decades. In its general formulation, photometric stereo is an ...

Automatic rib labeling and anatomical centerline extraction are common prerequisites for various clinical applications. Prior studies either use in-house datasets that are inaccessible to communities, or focus on rib segmentation that neglects the clinical ...

Volume electron microscopy is the method of choice for the in situ interrogation of cellular ultrastructure at the nanometer scale, and with the increase in large raw image datasets generated, improving computational strategies for image segmentation and s ...

Deep learning has revolutionized the field of computer vision, a success largely attributable to the growing size of models, datasets, and computational power. Simultaneously, a critical pain point arises as several computer vision applications are deploye ...

A laser-based ultrasound inspection system comprising an object for inspection (1), a laser device for ultrasound generation (3a), a laser device for ultrasound detection (3b), and a coating arrangement (4) including a laser absorbing layer (4a) disposed o ...

Turning pass-through network architectures into iterative ones, which use their own output as input, is a well-known approach for boosting performance. In this paper, we argue that such architectures offer an additional benefit: The convergence rate of the ...

Recent advancements in deep learning have revolutionized 3D computer vision, enabling the extraction of intricate 3D information from 2D images and video sequences. This thesis explores the application of deep learning in three crucial challenges of 3D com ...

The performance of machine learning algorithms is conditioned by the availability of training datasets, which is especially true for the field of nondestructive evaluation. Here we propose one reconfigurable specimen instead of numerous reference specimens ...

Monitoring forests, in particular their response to climate and land use change, requires studying long time scales. While efficient deep learning methods have been developed to process short time series of satellite imagery, leveraging long time series of ...

Neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory disorders often involve complex pathophysiological mechanisms that are â to this date â only partially understood. A more comprehensive understanding of those microstructural processes and their characterization ...

Deep learning has emerged as a promising avenue for automatic mapping, demonstrating high efficacy in land cover categorization through various semantic segmentation models. Nonetheless, the practical deployment of these models encounters important challen ...

The remarkable ability of deep learning (DL) models to approximate high-dimensional functions from samples has sparked a revolution across numerous scientific and industrial domains that cannot be overemphasized. In sensitive applications, the good perform ...

Time-resolved non-line-of-sight (NLOS) imaging based on single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) detectors have demonstrated impressive results in recent years. To acquire adequate number of indirect photons from a hidden scene in the presence of overwhelming ...

Segmented meso-voids from a tomography scan of preforms impregnated under capillary dominated conditions, combined to 3D scans of the initial prefrom dry state. ...

T1-weighted structural MRI is widely used to measure brain morphometry (e.g., cortical thickness and subcortical volumes). Accelerated scans as fast as one minute or less are now available but it is unclear if they are adequate for quantitative morphometry ...

To obtain a more complete understanding of material microstructure at the nanoscale and to gain profound insights into their properties, there is a growing need for more efficient and precise methods that can streamline the process of 3D imaging using a tr ...

Open international challenges are becoming the de facto standard for assessing computer vision and image analysis algorithms. In recent years, new methods have extended the reach of pulmonary airway segmentation that is closer to the limit of image resolut ...

The high computational costs of deep convolutional neural networks hinder their deployment in real-world applications, including pulmonary nodule detection from CT scans where large 3D image sizes amplify the issue. This paper presents a novel 3D method to ...

We address the problem of segmenting anomalies and unusual obstacles in road scenes for the purpose of self-driving safety. The objects in question are not present in the common training sets as it is not feasible to collect and annotate examples for every ...
