Advanced antenna system (AAS) is a viable option for 5G millimeter-wave (mmWave) applications. AAS single element is favored to be dual-polarized, wideband, high gain, and compact in order to be utilized for 5G antenna arrays. In this paper, a low complexi ...

Dynamical system (DS) based motion planning offers collision-free motion, with closed-loop reactivity thanks to their analytical expression. It ensures that obstacles are not penetrated by reshaping a nominal DS through matrix modulation, which is construc ...

Navigation of drones is predominantly based on sensor fusion algorithms. Most of these algorithms make use of some form of Bayesian filtering with a majority employing an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), wherein inertial measurements are fused with a Global N ...

Tightly-coupled sensor orientation, i.e. the simultaneous processing of temporal (GNSS and raw inertial) and spatial (image and lidar) constraints in a common adjustment, has demonstrated significant improvement in the quality of attitude determination wit ...

Background Immersive virtual reality (iVR)-based digital therapeutics are gaining clinical attention in the field of pain management. Based on known analogies between pain and dyspnoea, we investigated the effects of visual respiratory feedback on persiste ...

Leukocyte count is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) events in the general population. Here we show that leukocytes are independently associated with CAD events in people with HIV in Switzerland, after adjusting for traditional and HIVrelated r ...

Self-attention mechanisms and non-local blocks have become crucial building blocks for state-of-the-art neural architectures thanks to their unparalleled ability in capturing long-range dependencies in the input. However their cost is quadratic with the nu ...

Dynamical System (DS)-based closed-loop control is a simple and effective way to generate reactive motion policies that well generalize to the robotic workspace, while retaining stability guarantees. Lately the formalism has been expanded in order to handl ...

Background: Although digital mobility outcomes (DMOs) can be readily calculated from real-world data collected with wearable devices and ad-hoc algorithms, technical validation is still required. The aim of this paper is to comparatively assess and validat ...

Inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors are widely used for motion analysis in sports and rehabilitation. The attachment of IMU sensors to predefined body segments and sides (left/right) is complex, time-consuming, and error-prone. Methods for solving the ...

As the world’s population grows in cities, urban dwellers spend a large amount of time inside their home, making housing health ever more important. Critical for residents’ health, the interactions between indoor residential environments and outdoor enviro ...

The balancing of mechanisms consists in distributing their moving masses, inertias, and elastic components in order to achieve key mechanical properties, such as the elimination of the shaking forces and moments exported onto their supporting structure or ...

LoRaWAN is nowadays one of the most popular protocols for low-power Internet of Things communications. Although its physical layer, namely LoRa, has been thoroughly studied in the literature, aspects related to the synchronization of LoRa receivers have re ...

With the Arctic rapidly changing, the needs to observe, understand, and model the changes are essential. To support these needs, an annual cycle of observations of atmospheric properties, processes, and interactions were made while drifting with the sea ic ...

Objective. Accurate decoding of individual finger movements is crucial for advanced prosthetic control. In this work, we introduce the use of Riemannian-space features and temporal dynamics of electrocorticography (ECoG) signal combined with modern machine ...

Objectives Fluid and white matter suppression (FLAWS) is a recently proposed magnetic resonance sequence derived from magnetization-prepared 2 rapid acquisition gradient-echo providing 2 coregistered datasets with white matter- and cerebrospinal fluid-supp ...

State-of-the-art 2D image compression schemes rely on the power of convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Although CNNs offer promising perspectives for 2D image compression, extending such models to omnidirectional images is not straightforward. First, omn ...

An automatic seizure detection method from high-resolution intracranial-EEG (iEEG) signals is presented to minimize the computational complexity and realize real-time accurate seizure detection for biomedical implants. Complex signal processing on a large ...

The non-dimensional energy of starting vortex rings typically converges to values around 0.33 when they are created by a piston-cylinder or a bluff body translating at a constant speed. To explore the limits of the universality of this value and to analyse ...

The exponential growth of wearable healthcare devices market is fostered by the internetof- things (IoT) era. Connected smart biosensors enable a decentralized healthcare that does not constrain the user to be in a medical facility to get a real-time insig ...
