Tau protein and its fragments self-assemble into amyloid fibrils in the presence of polyanions, such as heparin. By combining microscopy, scattering, and spectroscopy techniques, we studied the aggregation of the 26-mer Tau-derived peptide alone, Tau306-32 ...

Centrioles are microtubule-based structures that play important roles notably in cell division and cilium biogenesis. CEP135/Bld10p family members are evolutionarily conserved microtubule-binding proteins important for centriole formation. Here, we analyze ...

Mutations in the leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) gene represent the most common cause of familial Parkinson's disease (PD), whereas common variation at the LRRK2 locus is associated with an increased risk of idiopathic PD. Considerable progress has be ...

Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) is a natively unfolded protein that is closely linked to Parkinson’s disease (PD) by genetic, neuropathologic and biochemical evidence. Aggregated and fibrillar forms of α-syn are the main components of intracellular protein inclusi ...

In 1995, in the Biochemical Society Transactions, Mundy published the first review on CLIMP-63 (cytoskeletonlinking membrane protein 63) or CKPA4 (cytoskeleton-associated protein 4), initially just p63 [1]. Here we review the following 20 years of research ...

In vitro studies of Alzheimer’s disease are based on homogenously seeded neural cells. These studies reveal molecular pathway mechanism related to neurite degeneration, but they cannot analyze interactions between diseased and healthy cells. Furthermore, t ...

Parkinsons disease (PD) is characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and the presence of intraneuronal inclusions consisting of aggregated and post-translationally modified a-synuclein (a-syn). Despite advances in the chemic ...

Centrioles are microtubule-based organelles important for the formation of cilia, flagella and centrosomes. Despite progress in understanding the underlying assembly mechanisms, how centriole integrity is ensured is incompletely understood, including in sp ...

Adeno-associated virus serotype 6 (AAV6) viral vectors encoding mutant and normal tau were used to produce focal tau pathology. Two mutant forms of tau were used; the P301S tau mutation is associated with neurofibrillary tangle formation in humans, and the ...

Formation of the microtubule-based centriole is a poorly understood process that is crucial for duplication of the centrosome, the principal microtubule-organizing center of animal cells . Five proteins have been identified as being essential for centriole ...

Histone deacetylase (HDAC) 4 is a transcriptional repressor that contains a glutamine-rich domain. We hypothesised that it may be involved in the molecular pathogenesis of Huntington's disease (HD), a protein-folding neurodegenerative disorder caused by an ...

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the progressive degeneration of the dopaminergic nigrostriatal pathway and the abnormal appearance of intracellular inclusions named Lewy bodies (LBs). Over the past few years, the d ...
