The thesis at hand is concerned with robots' navigation in human crowds. Specifically, methods are developed for planning a mobile robot's local motion between pedestrians, and they are evaluated in experiments where a robot interacts with real pedestrians ...

Adjustable robust minimization problems where the objective or constraints depend in a convex way on the adjustable variables are generally difficult to solve. In this paper, we reformulate the original adjustable robust nonlinear problem with a polyhedral ...

Years of globalization, outsourcing and cost cutting have increased supply chain vulnerability calling for more effective risk mitigation strategies. In our research, we analyze supply chain disruptions in a production setting. Using a bilevel optimization ...

Rational design of non-noble metal electrocatalysts with high intrinsic activity for both the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is extremely impressive for sustainable electrocatalytic water splitting systems. However, i ...

Modern ammonia production plants are equipped with efficient energy integration networks able to recover an important fraction of the waste heat exergy available throughout the chemical system. However, in order to drive the endothermic reforming reactions ...

Hydrogen production through water electrolysis is a clean option for storing energy from renewable sources. Low-cost hydrogen production requires efficient water electrolyzers that can produce pure hydrogen at high production throughputs. Membrane-less ele ...

The hydrogen storage properties and crystal structures of YMgNi4-based alloys, which were synthesized from (2 - x)YNi2 and xMgNi(2) (0.6

An integer program (IP) is a problem of the form

\min \{f(x) : \, Ax = b, \ l \leq x \leq u, \ x \in \Z^n\}

, where

A \in \Z^{m \times n}

b \in \Z^m

l,u \in \Z^n

, and

f: \Z^n \rightarrow \Z

is a separable convex objective function. The problem o ...

We solve a rich routing problem inspired from practice, in which a heterogeneous fixed fleet is used for collecting recyclable waste from large containers over a finite planning horizon. Each container is equipped with a sensor that communicates its level ...

Solar technologies hold the potential to ultimately counteract the effects of climate change. Nevertheless, the intermittency of sunlight poses technical challenges regarding the storage of the surplus production and the supply of the deficit. The generat ...

To handle global problems of energy and environmental pollution, efforts have been made to harvest energy from sunlight. Photoelectrochemcal water splitting is an efficient way to achieve sustainable solar-fuel production. However, to make this method comp ...

A major challenge in the face of increasing global energy demand is the development of alternative environmentally friendly and renewable energy resources. Hydrogen is an excellent energy carrier, but has drawbacks in storage density and is dangerous to ha ...

Carbon dioxide and the carbonates, the available natural C-1 sources, can be easily hydrogenated into formic acid and formates in water; the rate of this reduction strongly depends on the pH of the solution. This reaction is catalysed by ruthenium(II) pre- ...
